I used these the other day for a jazz performance, and I loved them, great sound, not too loud, amazing definition on the cymbals, only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I can't honestly say how well they'll work in the long run, but I still have to say my choice for jazz.
I got these sticks and have been playing with them for a long time (6 months) before the head chipped, ever since then I have just pounded, really hard and they still have perfect balance and after three months of pounding they are still together.
Like many other teachers, I recommend 2B sticks for beginning band students. These ones are nicely balanced, and the label is usually helpful in using as a reference point for where to place the thumb.
They were good sticks. But I busted mine in about a year and a half. I would reccomend them to set players.
The Vic Firth 5A's are the most versatile sticks I?ve ever played on. I regularly use these for jazz (piano trio and quartet), for which they have a gorgeous cymbal sound and enough body to kick up some volume when I need too as well as praise and worship services where I'm competing with electric bass, guitars, and piano. I've played about every brand of stick on the market and these are the best!
