The Violin (also known as a “fiddle”) is the most storied orchestral string instrument of our time. Its shape and form have been mostly unchanged since the 1500s! In fact, Violins from previous centuries are some of the most sought after (and expensive) instruments today. Fortunately for violin players today, modern manufacturing has found ways to replicate the construction and techniques of the vintage violins. And while there’s no chance of a 2013 violin unseating the 1700’s Stradivarius in a performance setting, it does mean that students can utilize a quality instrument that shares many of the same components as the vintage instruments.
Today’s advancements in technology have also created Electric Violins – great for live performances as well as quieter practice. Several modern performances have made the electric violin a staple in pop and rock music including Boyd Tinsley (Dave Matthews Band) and Regina Carter (Yani). These players among others have taken their classical technique and approach into new worlds by applying the electric instrument in both live and recorded performance. For your convenience, The Woodwind & Brasswind also carries over 1,000
