These Vito - (Lebanc) reed pockets are amazing beacuse you can can customize the "O' ring to you specs!! I've been involved in a four year experiment. My reeds are playing great and looking golden and beautiful. Here's what I can tell you. 1) I start by putting some reeds, tips down, in a glass of cool water. It will take about two days before they sink to the bottom. You should change the water every other day or whenever it looks discolored 2) after the reeds have gone into a water coma, now the fun begins!! You can keep them in a sealed jar in the refrigerator and you don't need to change the water for a week or more. They play great and keep fresh as a daisy. 3) In order to identify them, after they have sunk down, I used a wood burner to slightly sear roman numerals on the bark. I'm figuring that reeds are born and live in water so they are happy as clams. WINTER is the driest time of the year. After playing a water coma reed for one full day at Skidmore, it never dried out and played unbelievable. After I was done, I put it back in the water and the reed sunk right back down with his friends!! SUMMER - dampest time of year. Since the reed is already saturated, It isimpossible for it to soak up any more water, it's already at 100% humidity. As long as you keep the reeds cool in a fridge OR change the water every other day, you and the reeds should be grinning ear to ear!! Futhermore, if you use plain white vinegar, you don't even need to keep them in the fridge!! The vinegar keeps my reeds bacteria free and fresh as a daisy. I happen to be a red blooded italian who happens to love oil and vinegar dressing!!
