I own the standard model. I have had it for 3 or 4 years now. It makes my violin sound very nice, but it falls off every now and then, probably because the hardware parts have loosened to the point where they always swivel. Also, the padding is slowly peeling, but that's not a big deal since I can just glue it back in place. It is still a nice shoulder rest. It is a low shoulder rest, so if you need a tall one, I wouldn't recommend this one.
....need i say more?????
I'm a professional violinist - play in a professional string quartet and in a professional symphony and i teach violin - and i use this shoulder rest.
it's very comfortable and doesn't fall off (well, every once in awhile, but not nearly as much as my kun did).
the wood construction actually helps my violin sound better (i don't think it's just in my mind) although it doesn't affect intonation (j/k!!!!).
and, as my subject line say, Joshua Bell uses this rest. Need i say more??????
I own the Artist Model with gold fittings. It is a beautifully made shoulder rest that compliments my violin's cherry finish. I am a beginner - so I can only say the sound does not seem to be diminished in any way while using the shoulder rest. It has well made grips that do not damage the finish of the violin, however periodically it will slip off the violin. I find I have to readjust the placement occasionally - this prevents it from slipping off all together. I did my research before buying and noticed this is a problem with most shoulder rests. So, with that said, I would highly recommend the Viva la Musica shoulder rest.
