The Jazz Connection series explores the world of jazz and its influences on many musical styles including rock 'n' roll, blues, calypso and Latin American music. Book 1 consists of nine performance pieces written for the later elementary level student. Purpose: Book 1 corresponds with Jazzabilities Book 1. Jazzabilities is a series that helps build a jazz vocabulary through short exercises and performance pieces. Jazz Connection reinforces this vocabulary through these entertaining pieces. Suggestions for Instruction: Students who haven't studied jazz will still recognize many of the rhythms and hand positions used in this book. Swing eighth notes and bluesy accidentals may be new to some students, but will be great fun to play with a little time and practice. Triplets are not introduced until Book 2.
