This reed is very useful for practicing for a long time when pitch and tone aren't the most important thing. I use it for the first few days working on a song, just to get the rhythm and basics down, then switch to another reed to practice tuning and tone. It holds up well, and if you can stand the sound of a duck for a while, you won't have too much trouble.

If anyone is starting oboe players in elementary school, these reeds are great. They are much more durable than the wooden reeds, which most 4th graders destroy in about 3 days. Sure, the sound isn't the most beautiful you can get, but at a beginner stage where you are just working on fingerings, embouchure, and all that fun stuff, the plastics hold up much better and avoid much of the frustration that wooden reeds can cause early on.

For older, more experienced players, I'd recommend wood or fibercane for better tone and control.
