Good beginner/intermediate flute

Comments about Yamaha 381 Series Intermediate Flute:

This flute is very reliable. It's a great step up from a beginner flute. Playing it for nearly eight years, I had very few maintenance costs. If you find this is a wonderful flute, I suggest trying out both the off-set and inline G styles as well as trying the flute with a split E and without, to decide if the split E is necessary. The most important part of the flute is the headjoint style. Try different headjoints to find the perfect one that helps you produce the sound you desire. Like with any flute, before deciding which flute is best, I would not only try different Yamaha's, but also try different brands. Always seek advice from someone who is knowledgeable with flutes, but remember, your band director's or flute teacher's recommended flute might not always be the perfect flute for you.
