Choose from the folowing Yamaha Warranties:
I have been playing on the Yamaha 811, the 841's replacement, for the past 12 years and this horn is incredible. The intonation is stable, and the tone quality is superb. The Yamaha oboe has been called a copy of Loree, honestly who doesn't copy Loree these days, but at a far better price. I have contemplated buying different horn over the years but none of them compare to my Yamaha in terms of sound, intonation, and stability. This is a better alternative to the more expensive Loree. Consider buying this horn.
I have been playing & teaching the oboe for nearly 20 years, and I regularly recommend this instrument to my students and their parents. I played a Custom Yamaha 841 throughout high school and part of my undergraduate college. It had a fabulous tone quality, good pitch with the exception of F# & G at the top of the staff (they tended a little high), and the Yamaha warranty on cracking can't be beat. I switched to Lor?e while in college, and I still play on one. I think the pitch is slightly more consistent and the tone is a little more polished on the Lor?e. However, I have found that my high school students just haven't yet developed the muscle needed to produce a quality sound on a Lor?e. Lor?e oboes are very resistant and require a lot of air in order to get a really good tone. The Yamaha 841's are less resistant than Lor?es, and my middle & high school students invariably sound better (both tone & pitch) on the Yamaha oboes. Also, the keys are placed slightly differently, and my students seem to have a little easier time reaching them on the Yamahas. Made for slightly smaller hands, I think. Overall, the Custom Yamaha oboes are consistently high quality instruments with a full, dark tone, good intonation, and I can't say enough good things about them. There's really nothing negative to say. They're professional-level instruments that can easily last the students through college if they take care of them, and they're a couple thousand dollars cheaper than Lor?es. I would LOVE to have all my students playing on these oboes!
