OVERVIEW

Get a replica of the mouthpiece of master bass trombonist Douglas Yeo.

The Douglas Yeo Replica Series mouthpiece features a large, symphonic size cup for a big, rich sound. It is characterized by a full, centered tone with a focused core; a brilliant, well-defined overtone series; and an even response in all registers and dynamics. It combines the best aspects of large, symphonic style mouthpieces with an ideal amount of outer mass and a carefully designed backbore and throat for improved high range and dynamic flexibility. Silver-plated.

As Doug explains: "This mouthpiece is designed for the player who wants a big sound as well as flexibility. While I do most of my work on the bass trombone as a member of the Boston Pops Orchestra, I also enjoy giving recitals, playing in church, and doing jazz and commercial work. The mouthpiece works well in all of those situations. I insisted on a centered, solid sound that would sound good at 5, 50, and 500 feet. And it goes without saying that I wanted a mouthpiece that would play evenly and in tune in all registers. When I say I play this mouthpiece all the time in the Boston Symphony, I mean it-I use nothing else. Whether it be Brahms, Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Schumann or Berg, this mouthpiece simply works. I'm confident that if anyone tries this new mouthpiece, it will be the last one they buy."

Yamaha's Replica Series mouthpieces come after year of collaborating with hundreds of the world's best players at their R&D Ateliers. These players were unsatisfied with the commercial models out there and knew the Yamaha technicians would deliver exactly the tone and response they wanted. The demand for these mouthpieces has grown, so Yamaha decided to offer a select lineup. Each Replica Series mouthpiece is produced on a precise, computer-controlled lathe to guarantee each one is exactly the same as the one used by its namesake.

Comments about Yamaha Douglas Yeo Replica Series Trombone Mouthpiece:

The Doug Yeo Replica is without a doubt one of the best mouthpieces I have played on. For me it hit the perfect point of "Big but not too big" as the entire range of the horn is entirely accessibly with a good sound with this mouthpiece. Low range isnt too blatty and the high range isnt airy sounding which I had suffered with on my previous mp the Stork Custom 1S.

There was an immediate difference in sound that both my colleagues and I noticed.
There is near-perfect response and freedom of flexibility throughout the entire horn that really allows you to meet that idea of a beautiful sound on the bass trombone.

Would jighly reccomend this piece of gear for any serious bass trombone player who is stuck between having too big or too small of a mouthpiece.

Doug Yeo Signature Series Bass Trombone mouthpiece

Comments about Yamaha Douglas Yeo Replica Series Trombone Mouthpiece:

This is a very wide and deep cup, with a very narrow rim, with a large bore, and is very heavy. It works great if your playing bass line on a big band chart, or doubling a tuba part, with a big horn like an Edwards 454 or Bach 50T3L; but if you have to play a 3rd, 2nd or 1st t-bone part, it becomes difficult to play in the I don't consider it an alround mouthpiece; it is specialized for Bass-line music. I have a fairly new Yamaha YBL 830 Xeno Bass Trombone and am currently using a Bach 1-1/4GM for dance band, or doubling Tuba parts, and a BW&WW Brand 1-1/2G (Bach copy) for the higher 1st, 2nd & 3rd trombone parts if I need to play them.

      This is a BIG mouthpiece!

Comments about Yamaha Douglas Yeo Replica Series Trombone Mouthpiece:

I am a tenor trombonist. But I was giving a bass trombone a try. I had the 1-1/2 G mouthpiece that came with the horn, but thought I'd try out the Yeo mouthpiece. This has a very large-diameter rim and is quite deep. I did get great low notes with it (notes below the staff), but my midrange tone was not as good as before and my high range suffered quite a bit. I had read a lot about Doug Yeo and the original Yeo mouthpiece (with gold-plated rim), so when I saw they had come out with this "replica", which is basically the same mouthpiece but without the gold plating, at one-third the price of the original, I figured it was worth a shot. On my tenor trombones I do use a fairly large mouthpiece (a gold-plated Dennis Wick 4, which is about the same size as a Bach 3) which gives me a better tone, so I thought I could handle the big Yeo mouthpiece. But I couldn't! Of course, everyone's mouth is different and the mouthpiece that works for one person won't necessarily work for the next. This is a high quality mouthpiece and the price is good, but for me, it was too much mouthpiece. If you are used to a larger mouthpiece then this might work for you, so try it -- but only for a bass trombone. I think this would be way too big to use on a tenor, even a large-bore tenor.
