Choose from the folowing Yamaha Warranties:
I ordered this neck as a replacement to the stock G1 that shipped with my YAS 82Z. The G1 was a fine neck, but I had several complaints. Firstly, the altissimo register sounded "stuffy" and didn't have the tonal clarity that I was looking for. As a professional, that is entirely unacceptable. Secondly, the intonation over the range of the horn was inconsistent. Lastly, the tonal center seemed to vary. The combination of the neck and the horn gave a somewhat darker sound in the bell keys to the middle register, but everything from high D# up sounded strident and bright. This altissimo register not only sounded like I was playing through cheese, but it was rather difficult to blow. I liken it to like trying to get a triple A on bari sax with a soprano mouthpiece. It was that unpleasant. Some would suggest that it was players fault (and not to toot my own horn) but I had been playing for approximately 12 years at the point, so I know it wasn't me.
When I switched to the G3, those issues all improved drastically. Intonation is much more constant, but as with all instruments and musicians, everyone has particular "quirks." I find C# on the staff to actually play a little flat, and G# to be about 15 cents high. One of my professors played the same notes and had to opposite effects, so it's all relative to the players. However, it is much improved regardless, over the entire instrument and extended range.
Altissimo became much easier to facilitate. G pops right out, and G# only offers mild resistance. A is a breeze, and everything from Bb to triple Bb is not much harder to play than a high F#. It maintains the tonal clarity of the "natural" range of the instrument as well as anything can, I suppose. Like all saxophonists who play altissimo, it's not a one size fits all. Adjusted for voicing and particular fingerings, I find that it's relatively constant.
Lastly, the timbre of the bell key Bb to palm key F# remains relatively constant.
