I was a bit skeptical when I saw this bass. I wasn't expecting a great bass, considering the quality of their lower models. And the name Yamaha didn't exactly appeal to me because they make things from guitars to motorcycles. But since I have heard some good things about their higher end models, I decided to try it out. This bass has the best sound I have heard in a while. And at this price, this bass is a steal. Very comfortable body and perect balance. Great tone for finger style and for using a pick. When it comes to slapping, popping and tapping this baby, you can't go wrong. I put this bass to a test against a Music Man SUB, and this bass blew it out of the water, mostly because of the slap tone. The active pickups are out of this world, and even have a little groove for ultra thumb comfort. In short, this bass looks great(best in metallic red, IMO)sounds greater, and feels great. This is a great bass and I give it 10 out of 10!

This is an excellent bass for any level bass player. The new pickups are incredible. It sounds great on my Fender 25b amp. I have been playing for 2 1/2 years I have recently owned a Fender and Ibanez and neither have sounded as great and make me feel as comfortable as this Yamaha.

This bass is pretty good, but it's electronics are not too active. But everything else about this bass is great. you can really hear the difference in the pickup's. The best thing is that it's light and the pickups are extremely comfortable because they have a curve on the top and the bottom. I would say this bass is good for Pop/rock, funk and jazz.

I'm a new bass player and I was looking to upgrade from a Squier P-Bass. Shopped around, played a lot of basses in a lot of different price ranges. This one had the best sound, is very comfortable to play and the quality is second to none. For someone trying to find their own "sound", the active electronics are great. The sounds that I can get through my instructor's Roland DB-900 are incredible. This is the best mid-range priced bass that I could find.

I have had many bass guitars in the past but this bass is like no other. Great for all genres and great for slapping and popping.
