This may be an intermediate model bass trombone - I guess I would agree with that since it only has one rotor. However, it makes an unbelievable professional quality tenor trombone! I bought mine 16 years ago when they first came out with the model and I have used it (with a Shilke 58 mouthpiece) as my tenor trombone ever since. I am starting on my masters in trombone performance next year, usuing this trombone and it works for everything from orchestra to solos. If ever I have to buy another trombone, (but I hope the one I have lasts forever!) I will buy another one of these - no changes!
My band director bought this for me to use and the only thing that I can say is that it is such an improvement over my old one. It takes almost no effort to play a solid tone and make your presence known to the audience. I recommend this trombone to the intermediate trombonist.
This trombone is a good starter bass trombone. I like the case, which is sturdy. I also like the finish. Fit and finish are good on this trombone. But what really matters is how a trombone (or any other instrument) plays, and this one won't let a player down. It has a good scale, and with the mouthpiece it came with, I was able to push it up to the high C in the treble clef with little effort. The slide moves well. The attachment is reasonably quick when kept well oiled. The instrument gets a little stuffier down in the low range, but only when compared to a tuba! The only major fault I can find with this trombone is that, like all other single-trigger bass trombones, you have to pull the attachment out to get a low B natural. Otherwise, this trombone will do until well into the grade three and four charts.
Wonderful tone and a super-smooth slide. My only complaint is that the valve needs oiling more that any other horn I have ever owned. Gets sticky if it sits for several days. Other than that, it would be a 5-star review. I figure if one valve was good enough for George Roberts, its good enough for me!
