Comments about Yamaha YBL-421G Intermediate Bass Trombone:

Had my 421-G for 7 years now. first Bass Trombone I have owned. have played 2 others. 30 plus years with several tenor trombones. This has got to be the best trombone I have ever owned or hope to own. Great sound especially for the low volume of air needed to make perform. WELL above my expectations.

Bass trombone or large tenor?

Comments about Yamaha YBL-421G Intermediate Bass Trombone:

This may be an intermediate model bass trombone - I guess I would agree with that since it only has one rotor. However, it makes an unbelievable professional quality tenor trombone! I bought mine 16 years ago when they first came out with the model and I have used it (with a Shilke 58 mouthpiece) as my tenor trombone ever since. I am starting on my masters in trombone performance next year, usuing this trombone and it works for everything from orchestra to solos. If ever I have to buy another trombone, (but I hope the one I have lasts forever!) I will buy another one of these - no changes!

takes very little air to make a presence

Comments about Yamaha YBL-421G Intermediate Bass Trombone:

My band director bought this for me to use and the only thing that I can say is that it is such an improvement over my old one. It takes almost no effort to play a solid tone and make your presence known to the audience. I recommend this trombone to the intermediate trombonist.

Nice way to start

Comments about Yamaha YBL-421G Intermediate Bass Trombone:

This trombone is a good starter bass trombone. I like the case, which is sturdy. I also like the finish. Fit and finish are good on this trombone. But what really matters is how a trombone (or any other instrument) plays, and this one won't let a player down. It has a good scale, and with the mouthpiece it came with, I was able to push it up to the high C in the treble clef with little effort. The slide moves well. The attachment is reasonably quick when kept well oiled. The instrument gets a little stuffier down in the low range, but only when compared to a tuba! The only major fault I can find with this trombone is that, like all other single-trigger bass trombones, you have to pull the attachment out to get a low B natural. Otherwise, this trombone will do until well into the grade three and four charts.

Just what I needed

Comments about Yamaha YBL-421G Intermediate Bass Trombone:

Wonderful tone and a super-smooth slide. My only complaint is that the valve needs oiling more that any other horn I have ever owned. Gets sticky if it sits for several days. Other than that, it would be a 5-star review. I figure if one valve was good enough for George Roberts, its good enough for me!
