I started looking for instrument because I will be leaving for college at the end of the summer. I started my search determined to get a Bach but soon began looking at many different instruments. One of my band directors recommended this particular instrument so I began researching it. I eventually placed my order and when it was delivered I fell in love. It plays better then the old Bach and other Yamaha "band director special" I had before. It is amazingly free blowing and had great tuning. The rotors are smooth and quick, as is the slide. It comes with the most beautiful stock case I have ever seen. The only downside i can possibly think of is the mouthpiece. Yamaha could have easily included a mouthpiece from its signature series line. I'm currently searching for a new mouthpiece.

I am a trombone student at the Lionel Hampton School of music at the University of Idaho. I have been playing trombone for eleven years and bass trombone for nearly three years. I am the bass trombonist for the Washington-Idaho symphony and cover the bass trombone spots in our school's top jazz bands. I have played the Bach 50B and the custom Getzen, rose brass, with dual axial flow valves. Playing this horn for the first time is a trip. Every partial is in tune, speaks well, and responds to as soft as you want to play, or just as loud as you can make it. The one piece bell, for me, is the perfect weight, thickness, and color and adds richness to my sound. The slide is very fast and comfortable to play on, even for four hour dance gigs. The valves, Yamaha's bigger conventional design, is surprisingly free flowing with just enough resistance to let notes speak down to a double B flat and beyond depending on your embouchure. The extra E flat or D tuning slide make the trombone more relevant for the type of literature you are playing. Excellent horn, I have grown exponentially as a musician ever since I've picked it up.
