I was able to buy this horn last summer, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. It was packed well and delivered safely. I LOVE MY BARITONEI!!! Everyone raves about the sound, even if I hit some clams. Haven't gigged with it yet, due to personal issues, but hope to this year. I played the 52 at Portland State and loved it, and the 62 is much better. I still need work on playing the far upper register, but that's my technical challenge. This horn will stand up and dance if you let it. It has a hauntingly beautiful singing tone in the upper ranges, wonderful tone on the lowest note (low A) and great sax sound in the middle ranges. I love this horn.
I finally got my hands on the 62 and I fell in love with it. This horn is it. It has a huge sound and good mechanics. I am a little disappointed with the smaller keywork, I have been playing a 30's Conn but that had been overhauled and buffed to thin before I got my hands on it. I've played some awesome low A Mk VI's, but they belong to the university and I wouldn't be able to find a decent one for what was paid for the Yamaha. Small keywork aside, this horn blows my mind every time I pick it up. The 52 is a nice horn as well, but this 62 I just got my hands on is incredible.
I currently play the old model YBS-61 which they don?t make anymore and I'm currently waiting to buy one of these bad mamajammas. As a pro Bari player for over 7 years; I must highly recommend this horn, it has everything one could want in a bari. I've played many of the 62's since my teacher is endorsed by Yamaha and has a few of them, not to mention trying out every 62 I can get my hands on. I must say that the level of craftsmanship is superb, every horn is different of course but the YBS-62 is the most consistent bari I've ever played. The key work is excellent, very comfortable even to people with large hands. Intonation is outstanding all over the horn, high register speaks wonderfully, and the low register is very smooth yet can bark up a storm when you need to. Great for every style of music from Bach to Bop. This thing has so much beef its ridiculous! But you can whisper Mulligan style with ease if the tune calls for it.
This is the best Baritone Saxophone I have ever played. The low A key is by far the best ergonomically designed low A key out there. The intonation is fantastic. The response is great. This is a very good sounding Baritone Sax. It fits well in any situation. With the Yamaha, one can easily sound like a finely tuned Cello or an out of control freight train and all points in between.
This is our 2nd opportunity to purchase an instrument with your company. This is the 1st time that we have done so online. We were able to facilitate the delivery of my son?s instrument in a very short turn around time. The 1st instrument that arrived and turned out not to be the exact model he was looking for. Originally this particular Yamaha Saxophone was unavailable for a lengthy period of time and he needed an instrument sooner. We reshipped the 1st saxophone and talking with customer service, found this saxophone available. Needless to say, with in a 2 week period, 2 instruments later, shipping back and forth, he had his saxophone. The instrument is very clean and he has nothing but praise for the instrument. The key lay out lends itself to his slightly smaller finger length. We would not hesitate in ordering online again.
I bought this model 10 years ago and it still outplays any selmer I have tried (thanks to a little tweaking by my fantastic repair man). The metal is softer than a selmer, and I have have a few dents repaired but the price and light weight make it a better choice for me. I gig on it more than any other horn and have never regretted the (large) purchase.
I've been playing saxophone for a good while now, but I just recently decided to take the plunge and invest in a Bari sax. I'm a student at Marshall University majoring in Jazz Studies so I knew I had to check out something that could really blow through the band when it came time for the Bari?s few solos. I tried numerous saxophones from different brands such as Selmer, Yanagisawa, Keilwerth and Jupiter, but none of them had the tone or key work as the 62. The sound when played through my Link was clean and crisp all the way from the high F# key down to the low A. And let me tell you, that thing can bark! The key work is simple and easy to use with just the right amount of give. I would recommend this sax to anyone who wants to be a serious Bari player.
This is by far the best saxophone I have ever played. Throughout my career I have never played anything as phenominal as this sax. The low and high notes come out smooth and easy. This is a top notch saxophone and I highly recomend it.
I bought my 62 from WWBW about ten years ago and it's still playing great. Like most saxes, the metal is rather soft, so you must be careful, but the action on this horn is exceptional and the sound is very even.
This Bari was the very best of around ten I had the opportunity to play when looking for a sax about three years ago. The most important aspect of an instrument, for me, is tone and this instrument has an extremely versatile sound. You can play a Bach sonata and make it sound like a cello, or you can roar out Souza in a band and make it sound like?well, Souza, or you can make it speak like Mulligan, Daly, Bluiett, etc., etc. if you are that good. I am not, but this horn gives me an amazing sound world I can explore to find my own sound. If you are a committed player, you want a good horn. You owe it to yourself to at least try this one. Note: if you do end up buying it you will want a different case! The horn is heavy enough without the coffin it comes in.
