Yamaha YHR-667 Geyer Series Fixed Bell Double French HornThe Yamaha YHR-667 Geyer Series fixed bell double French horn is a professional horn made for discriminating players who prefer a large throat instrument for moderate resistance to air flow.Features include hand-lapped rotary valves and slides, rotary valves and slides that have been hand-lapped are airtight and have smooth action. Articulated key levers have responsive motion and the hammered and annealed bell, processes so important to the instrument's acoustic characteristics, ensure consistently superior sound. Its tapered valves wear for a long time without air leakage. This horn has a warm and clear sound, great tone color flexibility with rich, focused core, and excellent projection in any venue. Its accurate intonation and comfortable, quick response make it a favorite among orchestral players the world over. The combination of the secure high register, strong projection, and quick attack of the Bb horn with the rich, warm timbre of the F horn make the double horn ideal for most playing situations.Includes mouthpiece, a plastic French horn case and premium rotor oil. Fast slotting horn. Plays very easily and is very fun. I wish I had this horn when I was learning to play! It makes finding the right note much easier with it's medium bell throat. A great value. A little on the delicate side so not a good horn for the clumsy person or a kid who will not take care of it.
This is an Ideal horn for soemone who wants a good geyer wrap without buying a much more expensive horn. The 667 slots well, and has a nice tone colour throughout its entire range. The range itself is quite solid top to bottom. The 667 actually has a wide bore, but the leadpipe taper itself actually goes fairly fast.
Very good horn. Produces a very good tone, and has a quick response. Highly recommend this french horn.
I purchased my 667 about 8 years ago to replace a Conn 8D that I sold to a friend. The 8D was bold and dark, but intonation was not great and anything above a high G got a bit squirrely. Everyone else in my section was playing medium bore horns and I had a tough time fitting in (with their sound). Enter the 667! My intonation immediately improved and my high range became much easier to hold over long practices. I had the bell cut with an Alex ring added and play a Lawson annealed Nickel Silver flare. The stock brass bell can get a bit brash and I did not want the Yamaha ring (no one else uses it). My low range isn't as booming as with the 8D, but I have had much more fun with this instrument. It is not a custom horn by any means, but this is a good horn for someone in high school or college that wants to have a serious instrument or consider going pro. Once you've gone pro and have played a few gigs, get a Rauch, Lawson, Paxman, Lewis, or Geyer horn and have a ball.
This is an awesome French horn. I use it at my school and even though it is the most beat up thing I have ever seen (cuz a lot of kids r stupid and r like "duh... I wonder if gravity works on this thing. Yup it does") it still has great tone quality which is saying something.
