I rented this oboe when I first started learning oboe. It's a great instrument. Probably not the best for beginners, not that there's anything wrong with it for beginners it's probably not wise to spend this much on something you might not continue. For advancing students, it's perfect. I love that it has the left hand F and the forked F resonance key. I recommend this oboe to all of my advancing oboe students looking to pursure the instrument as a major in college.
My son was ready for an upgrade from his Selmer student oboe. His instructor recommended looking at the Woodwind & Brasswind's website. Considering our budget, he advised us to get the all Grenadilla Intermediate Yamaha oboe. It has been a wonderful instrument with an excellent tone. My son since has received a scholarship for which he was runner up last year.
Additionally, WWBW was accurate in gauging the time period needed to receive this custom oboe. They kept me up to date with the status in construction, and then when it was shipped from the factory. During that waiting period, WWBW ran a 10%discount special for new orders. They extended this special discount to me even after my order was placed, simply because I requested it. The company also followed up with us to see how the instrument was meeting our standards.
Both the quality of the instrument and the service of WWBW has been superior.
i bought this oboe. it is a great oboe for this price i recommend this oboe for intermediate oboists who want a good cheap oboe
Don't get this oboe. Spare yourself the frustration and just get the fox student model. The service on WWBW may be great, (good jod guys), but the oboe isn't. It has terrible intonation and tone problems. If you're looking to continue music all your life, (me) just get on with a Loree and not this one.
I'm in 8th grade and I've been using a 25 year old Selmer that the school provided. Me and my classmate were the first oboists for a very long time since the school opened. The band director got us two new Yamaha 441A's and it sounded great. I have only played it with the band but I haven't got a chance to hear what it sounds like individually. Only complaint right now is that the keyword isn't all that comfortable, but I'll get used to it.
