Best student recorder available

Comments about Yamaha YRS-24B Soprano Recorder with Baroque Fingering:

I've used lots of different recorders with 4th grade students in the past 20 years, and this really stands out above others in the $3-10 price range. The better tone is meaningful to me as the teacher, but as important, this instrument responds better for young students. I also teach a group of college students studying elementary music, and after playing other brands, the students in the course agreed that it's the best you can buy for beginning students when weighing cost and sound quality.

Great instrument

Comments about Yamaha YRS-24B Soprano Recorder with Baroque Fingering:

This is a great instrument. It looks nice, sounds nice, and has great response. Since I've been needing to play recorder more and more often, I need a lot of sounds at my disposal. This instrument is useful for when the music calls for a harsher, louder sound. I haven't noticed any major issues with it. For a student, this instrument is perfect. It's sturdy, and the holes are placed vary well for small hands, but large hands won't find the holes too cramped, my (adult male) hands fit very well on this instrument. It has double holes, so chromatic playing is no problem. The straight windway makes it very responsive, but more sensitive to articulation (and more prone to squeaks in the low register)

The best low-priced recorder!

Comments about Yamaha YRS-24B Soprano Recorder with Baroque Fingering:

I disagree with the previous reviewer in the star rating of this recorder. I think it is an excellent recorder, especially considering the price. The intonation is consistent enough for group playing. You have to pay about 10x this price to get a better soprano recorder. Even then, it takes an experienced player to appreciate the differences. I have purchased several hundred of these for students in one of the Caribbean islands. Even many adults are playing these so that they can teach others. They are being used in may churches on the island. We did an extensive evaluation of lower priced recorders and this one is the best.

Great Beginner Instrument

Comments about Yamaha YRS-24B Soprano Recorder with Baroque Fingering:

Besides having a lovely ivory color, this instrument is a great gateway into the world of recorders. It is comfortable to play, and all the notes speak easily and clearly, even in the extreme upper register. I've been playing various recorders for around two years, and this was my first soprano. The sound isn't as nice as the more expensive Yamaha plastic recorders, and playing it in tune is a bit more difficult than others, but its a great way to learn the instrument for a fantastic price.
