Great Horn! But observe a mild break-in period

Comments about Yamaha YSL-881G Xeno Professional Trombone:

I held off from writing this review for about 6 months, because when I first got this horn, it didn't play well at all. There was a strange rattling that I thought was a loose piece of solder, so I went through a ton of trouble to try to get it "fixed." Little did I know that there wasn't anything wrong with it, it just needed some "breaking in," so after a few months I can honestly say, this horn is FANTASTIC. While going without a trigger may hurt you in auditions today, and you a modern orchestral position would be very difficult to perform with this, however, if you take those away, it is a fantastic horn. With something like a Giddings and Webster Euros, this thing slots perfectly. Very, very open feeling, while it may not be as free blowing as say, a Bach 42, it does have a much richer and darker color and depth of tone (in my humble opinion). However, beware, it does have some bite to it. It does get a little, per say, barky. If you're not careful, you'll be good as yelled at for being too splatty. So overall, I would have to rate this a 9-9.5/10, just because of that annoying break-in period. However, once you get over this, and adjust to the "bark," it's a truly fantastic horn.

Xeno trombone tops the pack

Comments about Yamaha YSL-881G Xeno Professional Trombone:

Recently I bought a new Yamaha Xeno 881G tenor trombone. . I give it five stars. It is the smoothest trombone I have ever played. Both the upper and the lower ranges have a consistency of quality unlike any other horn. When Doug Yeo recommended this one to me I started the search. It ended with the proverbial "pot of gold," a golden Yamaha Xeno.
