THE all around trumpet.

Comments about Yamaha YTR-6335 Series Bb Trumpet:

I've been playing a Yamaha ytr-6335s for over 20 years. This horn is the definition of versatile! Great for classical work (when you use a Bb instead of C horn) and Jazz alike. When you first make the switch to this horn it will make you work for a well centered tone, but once you achieve that, it will spread to all your other horns and you'll be thankful for it. Pros: -Deep dark bottom end -Sweet and snooty mid range -Bright and thick upper register -Good resonance -Tough finish Cons: -Valves need work after about 6 years of heavy playing (it's no Getzen) but still good -I wish the 4.8 in bell was a 5 in but that's just personal preference -No first valve slide stop -Slotting is tough in upper register (but that could be due to mouthpiece gap issues, which are easily overcome by using a mouthpiece with a longer shank or by using a gap solution system.) If you are making the leap from a beginner's horn to a professional horn because you are really getting serious about your playing, this is THE step you wan to make! I's not perfect for every genre of playing but it is very good for all. This horn is a "jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none" type horn. The only reason I really give it 4 out of 5 stars is that there are still steps up (Monette, Harrelson) and that the Yamaha company could learn a thing or two about valves from Getzen, but then so could most brands including Monette. I HIGHLY recommend giving this horn a try when you are looking for your next purchase. To do otherwise would be a disservice to yourself.

Comments about Yamaha YTR-6335 Series Bb Trumpet:

This is really a great trumpet. I play mostly C, so what I need is a horn that plays very easily and openly for a warm-up, has a nice Bach-like sound for solo rep, and has exceptional resonance very low in the register (where the C trumpet can't play). This horn has these things. It is a very cooperative trumpet.

Comments about Yamaha YTR-6335 Series Bb Trumpet:

Tone: Brighter than a Strad 180-37, But not as bright as some Schilke horns. Good all around jazz tone. You have to have very good control to get a dark symphonic tone though.

exceptional horn for the money

Comments about Yamaha YTR-6335 Series Bb Trumpet:

I ordered this trumpet because a member of one of the bands I play in plays this horn. He has exceptional tone and projection. Now I see why. I had difficulty adjusting the first week because this instrument played differently than my Strad or King but once I started putting enough air through this horn if came alive. The tone is honest and uncolored; not too dark not too bright. Projection is incredible, valves were smooth from day1, and fit and finish were tight. My 4 star rating means that this is one of the top three of the 20 professional horns that I have played in my career. At less than $1500 it is a steal.
