Yamaha YTR-8310Z Bobby Shew Custom Series Bb TrumpetThe Yamaha YTR-8310Z Bobby Shew Custom is a result of Yamaha' s partnership with the great trumpeter Bobby Shew. Bobby is a versatile player, equally at home in a lead role in a big band or in a largely soloing context in a quintet setting. Shew had a vision of creating one single efficient instrument that could screech a lead line, or blow sweet, mellow ballades. He finally found that instrument in the Z.When Yamaha decided to try to improve the Z, trumpet designer Shunichi Niwata and R&D specialist Bob Malone worked together with Bobby, making sure it had what Bobby needed in order to handle all of these various applications. The result was the Z as it is today. Key of Bb. Lightweight; .445" bore; one-piece, 5", yellow brass bell; one piece, drawn, gold brass mouthpipe; Monel pistons; hand-lapped pistons and slides; laser-fused pluzuma welded bell; unbraced inner outer tuning slide; large bell flare; large bore tuning slide; and special bead and bell taper.

The Bobby Shew trumpet is by far the most versatile trumpet made today. For many years I have been playing many styles of music on it and I have never found a situation where the Shew horn has not fit. It is true, if you are playing professionally in an orchestra, the Shew horn might not be the most ideal, but if you are just starting out and you need a Trumpet that can cover all the bases and produce a good sound this one is for you.
HAVE BEEN PLAYING YAMAHA HORNS SINCE THE 70?S. THIS ONE IS SPECIAL. ALL I DO TO CHANGE THE COLOR IS TO CHANGE THE SIZE OF THE MOUTH PIECE, WHICH IS NO MYSTERY, BUT IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE LIKE NO OTHER HORN I HAVE PLAYED. LIGHTWEIGHT AND FUN TO PLAY. PEOPLE COMMENT ON MY TONE ALL THE TIME. I JUST SAY THANKS, BUT I KNOW THE HORN IS THE SECRET.
I think this is a great trumpet. It is supposed to be a jazz trumpet but it seems to work well for band literature as well. If you are going to do this, I would strongly suggust not playing on the lead mouthpiece that comes with it. I read somewhere that you can do this and it will sound fine but this is definately not the case. Play this trumpet with the correct mouthpiece and it will sound awesome
If you are looking for a trumpet that can give you a heavenly sound with minimal effort look no more...this is the trumpet for you. Quality and responsiveness of the valves are flawless as well as the finish and feel. It comes with a great looking case and the Bobby Shew Jazz Mouthpiece. One word of caution "DO NOT OVERLOOK THE MOUTHPIECE THAT THIS TRUMPET COMES WITH" It was custom made for the instrument... the fit and sound for me were perfect. I take this opportunity to thank Dan Seda of WWBW for his professionalism in helping me choose an instrument that fit me perfect. Mil Gracias Hermano.
I PLAY CONN AND OLDS CORNETS, HOLTON AND BACH TRUMPETS. MY STRAD WAS A REAL BEAUTY, A 43 WITH GOLD ACCENTS AND 1ST. TRIGGER, REEVES VALVE JOB ETC. THE 8310 BLEW IT AWAY. I TRADED THE STRAD AND BOUGHT THE YAHAMA. WOW, THE EASE OF PLAYING IS INCREDIBLE. I IMMEDIATELY ADDED 2 NOTES TO MY UPPER REGISTER. THE COLOR IS FABULOUS, LIKE GOLD PLATE, THE 5" BELL IS A PERFECT MATCH, TUNING SLIDES ARE LIKE BUTTER. I ALREADY ORDERED THE SHEW LEAD MOUYHPIECE TO GO ALONG WITH THE JAZZ MODEL THAT COMES WITH THE HORN. THIS HORN IS BY FAR THE BEST HORN I'VE SEEN IN TERMS OF PRICE, QUALITY, AND CRAFTSMANSHIP. TRY 10 STRADS AND YOU TRY 10 DIFFERENT SOUNDS. TRY 1 YAMAHA CUSTOM AND YOU'LL STOP LOOKING, IT'S THAT GOOD!
