my parents bought this horn for me las november, and it has elavated my trumpet skills massively. it took me to 4 IMEA's (2 classical and 2 jazz), and i played it at a couple conference band gigs. it is the most amazing trumpet i have ever played. all i had before was just a student model horn, and now i'll never go back!!!!
I am a graduating senior in high school and since I'm going off to college, I needed my own personal horn. I was torn between 3 models: A Bach Strad 37, a King Silver Flair and this one. I went into my local music store, and asked to try out the Xeno, and as soon as I stuck my Bach 3c Megatone in, it pumped out a full, dark sound that I never heard out of any Strad. It plays classical and marching music like nothing. When I want that loud sizzling lead jazz sound, it didn't disappoint. Just to be sure, I tried the other two, and they didn't come close to the Xeno. Great Horn
I had planned to purchase the Bach Strad, and then I played the 8335rgs. What a terrific product, great sound, plays beautifully, great intonation. The bonus was that it was much less than the Bach. Comes with a double trumpet case, so you can carry your marching instrument and save the fine one for concert use. The 8335 does not come with a lyre, so if you plan to march with it, memorize the music (you should do that anyway). The bargain will be the review in a few years, but I expect it to last as long as my King (35 years).
As many horns as I have tried in my day, and this is definately the best all around horn for jazz and concert playing. This horn has a great full sound and really maximizes air flow with its reverse lead pipe and the monel pistons. The only thing I would recommend to people buying this horn, is to get some lightweight valve stems to make your sound even more powerfull. Absolutely no regrets with this horn and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
I got my Xeno at summerhays. This trumpet is amazing. I tried about twenty diferent models of trumpets before trying this one. This one was the best by far. It is extremely responsive, the tones are set which makes it harder to crack notes, it has a reverse lead pipe, it's impossible to overblow on this horn, the goodness is endless. This is one of the most vresitle horns I've ever played. It's good for Jazz, Classical, and Symphony music. If you want a horn that is going to keep you in business and having fun for a long time, this is the horn to get.
So, you're never supposed to blame the equipment, just the player when it comes to just about anything, but once I put this horn to my chops I couldn't believe how much easier it was to play! I have had so many people tell me how rich my tone has become, it's great!
The horn sounds great when I use it for classical and church and it really screams (beautifully, of course) when I use it for jazz or the pep band. It is a very flexible horn that works well in any setting. The mouthpiece that came with it feels fabulous and sounds great (I think it is similar to a 1C or so).
And man, what a BEAUTIFUL horn! I went with the shotblast silver finish (I got the last one in stock) and it is just goregous! I found that the finish adds just a touch of darkness to the tone, and going with a lacquer would have been too dark for my main instrument (I do hope to get one in C...?).
Anyway, believe all the reviews, it sounds amazing, plays amazing, and looks truly amazing. Get one if you find it!
I have had this horn for about 3 or 4 years now and I am never disappointed. The reversed leadpipe creates a beautiful, smooth sound. This horn works with any style of music you want to play. You just have to work a little harder to get a bright jazz sound because this horn is a heavyweight but i love it. I have tried playing many horns (Bach Strad and the Conn Vintage one are just a couple of them) and there is absolutely no comparison. This horn blows the Strad away. I don?t see why a Stradivarius is more expensive than this horn. This horn is (what I believe is) the best.
this horn is the best horn i believe is on the market. the rotary valve slide i find is excellent if you didnt know the man who built this trumpet made it so you wouldnt have to have constant repairs unless you did something horrible to it. again best trumpet ever i am now a trusting yamaha for life
I play this in any applicable situation, and fit in.
Even though it has the Gold Brass Bell, for me at least, it tends to have a brighter sound. Easy blow, great slotting, and excellent intonation.
Great compliment to my YTR8445GS C trumpet, although this comes in at a close second, I like the other horn better.
Many people compare this to the Z series trumpet, I have played both. Before I got this, my Bb was a lightweight, I like how they are responsive, but the heavier horns can be bigger, and take the air needed for stuff like Mahler 5. Don't think that because it is a heavy horn that it won't respond, it responds very well for being one of the heaviest conventional trumpets I have played.
If you want a trumpet that looks like a work of art, that has quality in the construction and materials and makes you sound better than you know how to play it , this trumpet can't be beat. Owning this trumpet will boost your ego and make you play better.
