The 991 alto sax is the horn that has it all. The sound is similar to the bright edgy sound I have gotten while playing many selmer mark vi's but I feel the sound I can achieve on the 991 alto is more refined and focused. The 991's build quality is second to none as well as well as the parts that go into making this horn are so unique. I would strongly recommend this horn to any saxophonist because for the low price for this instrument, you can spend the extra dollars you would be spending on a mark vi and put it towards a vintage meyer or state of the art case such as a bam
I have been playing on this horn for almost 6 months and i absolutly love it. Hands down the best horn I have ever played. This horn sounds beautiful in all registers. I used to play on a King student model and I've played on a couple Yamahas and Selmers but i will never go back. My Yani is my favorite horn of all time. Great horn if you want to sound great and have a big sound.
My goodness. Before I played it, I knew it was going to be an amazing horn. I played it to confirm my thoughts. I was right. The Yanagisawa A-991 is one of the best altos I've ever played on. It's a big step up from my student model Vito I've been using for a couple years...... The altissimo notes come out with ease, and the low notes also come out with ease, and they can be played at quiet dynamics. I recommend this horn to anybody looking for a good horn.
Great sounding instrument that plays well in both the upper and lower registers. I noticed that compared to a yamaha the keys are set closer to the the holes, so the action is much quicker. This is very helpful for fast runs and other techniques requiring speedy fingers. The octave keys fit the palm nicely and the black lacquer adds a nice touch. I don't think I'll ever need to play on another type of saxophone.
