Best Tenor for me

I have tried the Yamaha 82z and 875, a MkVI that didn't agree with me, some old Bueschers and Conn's and the Selmer Ref. 54. The Yanagisawa has the versatile tone I wanted, quality construction, and a reasonable price. They are consistent; every horn I tried played well, plus they are good to go right out of the box. My repairman only made a few minor adjustments. I love the Yanagisawa tenor and haven't had any second thoughts about my purchase. If only they had an un-lacquered model!!

My first tenor was a King Super 20 in the early 50's, then a Selmer Mark 6 in the 60's. This Yanagisawa is on a par both of those horns. A very easy playing and comfortable horn. The T991 has a very good sound and is one of the best tenor saxes that I have ever played. I also have a bronze Yanagisawa alto and bari sax. Yanagisawa, in my opinion, is the best maker of fine saxes on the market today. All of the horns are hand made and tested. Every sax was excellent right out of the case.

free blowing and clean tone

I just purchased a 991 Yanagisawa tenor and it is amazing. The solid feel of pearls and the new innovations to the low c and Bb key are impressive. Yanagisawa has designed a horn that is as free blowing as a Yamaha custom z and 875 but the tone on this horn is much cleaner and concise. The lower f e and d key feel like an old mark VI set up and the key above the b key plays smoothly when trying to play a high f or F# unlike the new Selmer’s. This is a horn that has been incredibly expensive and has now dropped to a very reasonable price. When you play this horn every bend and thought you have comes out on the horn. This horn combines the sound of a mark VI and Yamaha custom z with better key work and design.
