Pretty good horn.

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

The sound of the horn is just what I hoped it would be.
The one draw-back is the lead pipe cork. It is so thick I had to sand it down to get the mouthpiece where it had to be to be in tune. Fingering is a little difficult because of the left hand span to reach low Bb.

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

The AASS Allora Sax is just right for my needs as I
am new to Soprano. A good mouthpiece is necessary with a #2 reed.

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

I am a conservatory trained music educator who studied clarinet; I frequently play in pit orchestras for musicals and double often on alto sax. I needed a soprano for a show, and decided to take a chance on this saxophone. I was pleasantly surprised by the tone quality of this instrument, and I believe it will serve me well as an instrument to double on. Out of the box, it did not have perfect intonation, but I determined that improper key height in a few places was the culprit. After a $35 adjustment from my local repair tech, I'm happy with the scale. The big problem was that the side keys and palm keys opened too far. Beginners should keep in mind that soprano sax is inherently difficult to play in tune; don't expect a $3000 soprano to be in tune for you unless you have some experience, let alone a sub-$500 horn. If you haven't had any education and this horn plays out of tune for you, it might be you...not the horn. I would point out that the key corks on this instrument are not cut very cleanly, and definitely look to be of cheaper quality than what comes on top quality horns. That being said, I think they'll last a while before I need them replaced. The pads were ok, but sticky and noisy (particularly the G# key). I put a little talc on the pads and they're fine now. The mouthpiece that comes with this sax is pure junk; you MUST get something better. A Rico graftonite is good, if you're looking for something inexpensive. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with this instrument, even though it needed a little work out of the box. As an instrument to double on, I'm happy I was able to get an acceptable horn at this price.

NEVER!

Comments about Allora AASS-301 Series Student Soprano Saxophone:

This saxophone sounded GREAT, for the two weeks it lasted! Whilst playing it normally, practice, the screw head broke off completely, and the keys would remain pressed down even after they were released. In my opinion, this is £357 over-priced. If you buy it, I hope you enjoy your two weeks of playing it.
