A powerful guitar with a rich voice made from perfectly seasoned African mahogany.
The Alvarez DYM60HDE Yairi Masterworks dreadnought acoustic-electric guitar pairs Honduran mahogany with AAAA solid Adirondack spruce. Sonically, models in the Alvarez Yairi Masterworks series are full and powerful with huge, clear bass and mids. The wood for the Alvarez Yairi Masterworks DYM60HDE was sourced from land Yairi owns in Kani, Japan. The Honduran mahogany found was perfectly conditioned tonewood that had been naturally seasoning for approximately 50 years.
The quality and seasoning of these woods help make the Alvarez DYM60HDE very light in weight, which helps in several ways when it comes to tone. The guitar is also alive and extremely responsive. The stiffness of the Adirondack helps to create more energy, and when paired with the mahogany, generates a warm and open voice with powerful, clear bass and middle frequencies. The trebles are a little darker than Alvarez’s rosewood guitars and have a roundness to them and a bell-like quality. Players can drive the DYM60HD as hard as they wish and it will keep responding, even to extremely heavy strumming or flatpicking.
The Alvarez DYM60HDE has custom, hand-cut FST2 bracing, which is a forward-shifted X and the top is expertly tuned during the carving of this system. The one-piece mahogany neck has been spoke shaved by hand and the other appointments include the sublimely accurate Gotoh 510 tuners, bone saddle and nut, flawless, thin poly finish and subtle paua abalone and mother-of-pearl inlays.
It's also equipped with the discrete L.R. Baggs Element VTC undersaddle acoustic pickup for when you are ready to plug in, which delivers performance previously unattainable from an undersaddle pickup. The streamlined and efficient design removes every unnecessary internal component to improve the coupling between the transducer and the guitar. This substantially improves the sensitivity of the transducer so the acoustic guitar pickup delivers a robust, lively, and open sound with great dynamics and a delicate high end.
The L.R. Baggs Element Active System pairs the Element undersaddle transducer with a pre-contoured all-discrete class A endpin preamp and includes small, removable soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls (VTC) for added convenience and versatility.
The idea for Alvarez’s Yairi Masterworks line of guitars came about while they were detailing the specs of a guitar for Jack Pearson. The Alvarez team thought that Adirondack spruce paired with Honduran mahogany would be the best combination to satisfy Pearson’s tonal requests. The late Kazuo Yairi was one of the finest and most successful luthiers of all time and helped design and make Alvarez-Yairi guitars for nearly 50 years.
