Arturia's miniature beast, now with built-in step sequencer.
Minibrute SE is an enhanced version of the original Minibrute synthesizer with a built-in step sequencer and a ferocious analog sound. MiniBrute SE is designed to perform, its 100% analog audio signal path features a VCO wave mixer, the classic Steiner-Parker multimode filter, as well as numerous analog innovations such as the Metalizer, Ultrasaw, and the Brute Factor. Boasting a complete MIDI, CV and USB connectivity, MiniBrute SE is right at home with your computer or your vintage synths, making it the ideal companion to deliver a pure analog blast anywhere you go.
Press A Key & It Plays A Little Melody
The new step sequencer transforms the MiniBrute SE. You get 6 sequences with up to 64 steps each to create multiple musical phrases.
The sequencer can do more than just play back your sequences though. You can create new musical phrases out of your existing ones by flipping the playback modes, gate timing and swing settings in real time from the front panel. The new sequencing functions are a force multiplier for inspiring new musical ideas and creating exciting live performances.
The MiniBrute SE features the same great pure analog design as the original MiniBrute. Its analog VCOs give pure warm analog sound that can be soft and subtle or hard and brutal. Brute offers Arturia' complex and versatile oscillator design that can sound as classic or as wild as you can imagine. Add to this monster tone generator an amazing Steiner-Parker filter that gives the MiniBrute SE its unique character.
With the added Brute factor in the filter section, you have a lethal combination that will put your speakers through their paces. Add the 2 wide range LFOs, 2 envelopes, pitch bend, mod wheels, aftertouch and the new step sequencer - and you have a synth with a lifetime of sound design inside it.
A Full, Hands-On Sequencer
Compared to the original MiniBrute, the MiniBrute SE adds a powerful Step Sequencer that allows you quick and easy musical phrase creation. With 6 sequences that can contain up to 64 steps each, you can create a number of musical passages. This is not all however. The sequence goes well beyond a typical step sequencer in that it allow multiple play modes, real-time controls for swing and gate time and sequence playback modes. The performance possibilities are endless.
Minibrute SE' Functions
Minibrute SE oscillators include the standard Sawtooth, Pulse, and Triangle waves each with unique modifiers. Ultra Saw will create some epically huge sounds and Metalizer adds complex harmonics to the triangle wave, while the Sub Osc will add enough sub-harmonic frequencies to rattle the house.
The Oscillator Mixer allows for mixing the levels od the sub oscillator, the individual waveforms of the main oscillator, the noise generator, and the external inputs.
Mod Wheel and Aftertouch destinations, as well as the amount of Glide and Pitch Bend can all be set here.
The main modulation LFO supplies six waveforms and can run in sync with the Arpeggiator. Bi-polar modulation destinations allow for an amazing variety of sonic possibilities. The Vibrato LFO allows for trills and standard vibrato.
The Brute Factor can add anything between subtle drive effects to full-blown intermodulation havoc.
Steiner-Parker Multimode Filter:
Beefy analog filter with Low Pass, High Pass, Band Pass, and Notch modes. Resonance can be pushed into self-oscillation.
Two 4-Stage Envelopes:
ADSR Type Envelope generations with a fast/slow mode allow for the sharpest attacks or for extra long release times.
You get six sequences with up to 64 steps each, to create multiple musical phrases.
Keyboard with Aftertouch:
25 note keyboard with velocity sensitivity and aftertouch. Octave buttons allow transpositions of up to 6 octaves.

Comments about Arturia MiniBrute SE Analog Mono Synth:
I had to post this because the only review was negative and my experience has been very positive with this synth. It has been in my studio for some time now and has performed flawlessly. I have used it on one release so far - a cover of a Cure song and it sounds great in the mix. My tastes are changing and I might head in the direction of a nice poly synth (OB-Xa anyone?) but this certainly helped make me appreciate synths more than I had previously.
Comments about Arturia MiniBrute SE Analog Mono Synth:
Well, I can take a wild guess why this item is no longer available... MF is probably getting flooded with returns. I had mine about a day before the volume would shift wildly without any change to controls while I was playing it, down to nothing up to ear splitting levels.
Anyway, back for a return and a refund on mine too. I considered exchanging it for a "regular" Arturia MiniBrute Monophonic Analog Synthesizer, but after reading reviews about that unit on the web and my experience with the "upgraded" SE version, I'm really not interested in doing business with the Arturia company anymore. I was hoping for a decent, reasonably priced analog synth, but this is absolute junk.
In the end, I went with a Yamaha MX49 Synthesizer. Digital yes, but has similar features and a whole lot more, and so far has been totally awesome sounding and reliable.
