OVERVIEW

The most popular Bach Stradivarius pro trumpet design.

The Bach Stradivarius 180S37 Silver Professional Bb Trumpet offers depth and color of sound, coupled with the even intonation and response a professional player needs. Good for all-around playing, this Bach 180 Strad Pro Trumpet features a standard weight body and #37 bell, plus a standard construction #25 mouthpipe in silver finish. The most popular Bach Stradivarius trumpet available today is the 180S37 with a yellow brass bell. This trumpet is also available with a 1st valve trigger (180S37T) or 1st and 3rd valve triggers (180S37W55), or with a gold brass bell (180S37G). The Bach 180S37 Stradivarius Series Silver Professional Bb Trumpet includes a case and mouthpiece.

The 180S-37 features a #37 bell with a medium-fast taper to produce a sound that has a brilliant sound with a warm quality that allows this instrument to work well in multiple musical settings”from jazz to concert or solo playing. The #25 leadpipe allows for slight resistance that is effective in centering tone production. These features combined with a .459-inch medium-large bore allow the player to produce a well-rounded sound while not over-extending the endurance level of the player. The Monel valve material allows the pistons to be machined to a consistent diameter throughout the entire length of the valve to produce a more efficient "seal" between the piston and the interior wall of the valve casing. The result is less air leakage that could cause performance problems.

There are a lot of great trumpets out there but when it comes right down to it-- the 37 bell ML Bach Strad. is hard to beat. After decades this is still the trumpet to which everything else is compared. My new post-strike Bach plays great and the workmanship is as good or better than ever. There is just something about the 37 bell that no other maker has been able to duplicate and goodness knows many have tried. Some trumpets may play brighter or darker or hit the high notes a little easier but this is still the trumpet to have. I've owned and played any number trumpets including the most expensive "boutique" trumpets and many of them have been great trumpets, don't get me wrong-- but I've always gone back to the ML bore 37 yellow brass Bach Strad!

I have had this Bach for 3 years and it has done the job. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the support for the extreme upper register nor does it have the tolerance for free blowing. However, this instrument is very well made and it's intonation is absolutely perfect. When it comes down to price, this instrument is way over priced. It's worth the quality, but if you are paying this price for it, might as well get the Bach 180s43 or a Getzen Custom Series.

Comments about Bach 180S37 Stradivarius Series Bb Trumpet:

Once upon a time I actually sold trumpets for WWBW. I've played on Strads, Schilkes, Yamahas, Selmers, and Bessons during my 37 years of playing and performing. I see many people commenting that the horn is overpriced, or that one can "step up" into other horns, and I'm reminded that while watching the NY Phil performing their New Year's Eve concert, the entire section was playing on Strads. The Canadian Brass play on Strads. The 43 isn't a step-up; it's just a different bell. The 180S37 is a benchmark horn. It's a reference horn that's still played by a large number of pro symphony and jazz players. Around 2009 or so the build quality of the horns improved dramatically, and they took off. They're well built, sound terrific, and they're going to make you work efficiently to get them to open up in the upper register. If Phil Smith (former principal of NY Phil) could make a career out of playing an off-the-rack 180S37, it's probably worth checking out. But I'd recommend trying out several until you get the one that speaks to you. These are fantastic horns. The price is what it is. They're not inexpensive to build, as they are built by hand here in the US. When you listen to recordings of the CSO, NY Phil, Philly, Cleveland, or LA Phil, you're probably hearing either the 180S37 or a 229C. The Strad retains a serious place among elite professional players because of its sound, its ability to blend, and because of its build quality. This is a rock solid horn.

Comments about Bach 180S37 Stradivarius Series Bb Trumpet:

We bought the 180S37 Stradivarious for our ninth grade trumpet player as a step up from her starter trumpet to take her through high school, college and beyond if she chooses. She plays in several school ensembles--concert band, wind ensemble, pit orchestra, marching band--so it has been a good fit for a variety of situations. She also auditioned for our state's district honors band this year and her tone was much better with the new trumpet. Her band teacher and her private trumpet teacher (who recommended a Bach) also speak well of this instrument and our daughter likes playing it. Her trumpet teacher wants to switch the mouthpiece to a different size, but that might just be what he wants for her. I'd say that if a young student plans to keep playing for a while, then this is a good choice for the money.

Comments about Bach 180S37 Stradivarius Series Bb Trumpet:

I was worried about buying such an expensive instrument online, seeing as I couldn't play it first. I've been looking all over for a used Bach in my area but the quality of the instrument makes them hard to come by. I bought a "used" model off of this sight and was impressed. Not only was I able to negotiate price, I saved a ton of money and the instrument looks practically untouched and plays beautifully. I was amazed at how fast it shipped and how well it was packed. I will definitely be buying more items off WW & BW.

Dosen't get any better than a Bach

Comments about Bach 180S37 Stradivarius Series Bb Trumpet:

I've owned many horns in my playing lifetime......you name it and I've played it. I have owned a Bach Strad "Big Apple" model 37 now for about 5 years and it is my "go to" horn for everything from classical to jazz and I am in agreement with all others that say it is the sound that separates this horn from all others. The only other horn I have owned that comes close to the Bach was a LeBlanc Sonic, which I unfortunately sold. The horn is a little tight on top, but I have found intense practice usually solves that problem. I am not a lead player, so those big, fat stratospheric notes are not an issue with me. If this horn was a watch, it would be a Rolex.

I have never heard a trumpet play this good until I received mine. This trumpet is everything a great player is looking for and it plays so beautifully. I highly suggest this if you are torn between brands of trumpets. Bach has definitively impressed, and satisfied me!

    Still an Industry Standard

    By

Comments about Bach 180S37 Stradivarius Series Bb Trumpet:

Although they have made some of the parts cheaper and less sturdy than the older ones, this is still the industry standard and the quality control is pretty consistent (although a pro would still test multiple ones to get the very best sound). To be honest though, I have tested some Yamahas that play just as well and cost a bit less. Still, the 37ML will do what most players need it to do.
