I use it for recording live. I have a MOTU 2408 MKII and use the 8000 to give me 16-tracks. So far, I've used it just on drums and the results have been great! I've had no problems with it and the sound is very comparable to higher end preamps. For the money, it can't be beat.
This is an excellent tool. I have an ADAT LX-20, and this will allow me to record from our board's insert/direct-outs without messing with the channel gain (and causing a hassle for the soundman!). In the studio, I had it set up and running in 5 minutes. At 24 bits, I get superior sound into Cubase (my MOTU 2408 is 16 bit but will accept the 24 bit digital audio in through ADAT lightpipe). Extremely easy to use, flexible, and CLEAN. Well worth it.
