There were only one or two short reviews of this euphonium on line, so I took a chance when I ordered it. Hopefully, if I had to return it, it would be easy to do so.
I am happy to say now that I am very glad that I bought it.
FIrst, you get a lot of attention when you bring it to band rehearsal. People immediately notice it because of the color, and you have to explain that it's plastic and very light.
Second, it is amazingly very light. It's much easier to take on the road with you and to play. I believe it only weighs around six pounds.
I think it's easier to play and you get a nice light sound out of it. The low notes are terrific. It is a little more difficult to play higher notes. Notes above high Bb are a little thin, but I'm hoping they will improve with time. Overall, it produces a great sound.
The valves work fine, although it takes a little work to get them back in once you take them out.
The slides work ok for the most part. There's one that's a little stubborn about coming out but it does come out when you apply pressure.
I don't know how it will stand up with time, but I did take out a three year warranty on it. If it lasts two or three years, I will be happy.
I recommend using a plastic mouthpiece, even though I've seen people on line recommending using a metal one. If you don't like the mouthpiece provided, you can buy a Kelly plastic one.
Next time around, I'll try a different color.
Go plastic!

I use the CEU-200 for some rehearsals and some gigs with a novelty band. The horn blows easily and most notes can be lipped into tune. Valves are light and fast although somewhat noisey. The low range has a nice mellow sound, however, notes above F above the staff are difficult and the G above cannot be played in tune with 1&2 or 3 valve but strangely with 1&3. I also found the B natural above the staff plays better in tune using 2&4. This plastic just does not project like my brass horn. I would say for a new student who has to lug a horn to and from school it's an option. New students don't play much in the high range and the easy to play mid and low range with a fun horn may keep their interest until they're ready to move up to a traditional brass horn. I suggest not using the plastic large bore mouthpiece that comes with the horn, but get a tenor trombone mouthpiece converter and use the smaller mouthpieces recommended for beginning students.

Comments about Cool Wind CEU-200 Series 4-Valve Plastic Euphonium:

It took a while to get here, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. It doesn't have the resonance of a metal horn, but that could be the nut behind the mouthpiece. The horn is light and colorful and practically indestructible and I am the envy of my fellow musicians.

Play it to believe it

By

from Texas Gulf Coast

Comments about Cool Wind CEU-200 Series 4-Valve Plastic Euphonium:

I was not too sure about plastic horns, but these looked a cut above the others with better valves. WE were able to buy several for our beginners instead of getting a single brass horn. We have been very please with how they respond and how they sound. An unexpected advantage was the lightweight of the horns. A young student can play it without being hunched over from the weight. We have since purchased a number of other horns for our beginners to use. Just remember don't leave them in the hot sun in a car - we are concerned about that here on the Texas Gulf Coast where it gets hot fast in the summer. We do not use the plastic mouthpieces, but standard mouthpieces instead.

i STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT

Comments about Cool Wind CEU-200 Series 4-Valve Plastic Euphonium:

Sure I bought a plastic euphonium, thinking heck it will be fun to mess around with. After all how bad could it be. Well it is not bad at all. It is amazing! The sound is warm and full. very minimum pitch issues - nothing that can not be taken care of with some careful adjusting. The highest notes are great the lowest note are a little wooffy. but I am talking about the very lowest notes and that may have more to do with the provided mouthpiece than the instrument.

Plastic just doesn't cut it

Comments about Cool Wind CEU-200 Series 4-Valve Plastic Euphonium:

I had never played a plastic wind instrument before but decided to try one with this euphonium in an effort to save money. My assessment is as follows: To me, the Cool Wind euphonium is lightweight as advertised but has a cheap and clunky feel. The sound is cardboardy, like something issuing from a steamer trunk, and the "ring" of brass is missing. The plastic valve mechanism squeaks annoyingly, as does the surface of the instrument when contacted by human hands. And yes, the surface is a fingerprint magnet.

My solution was to return the item and replace it with an Allora brass euphonium, also from WWBW, with which I am very pleased. The Allora doesn't come up to the gorgeous Yamaha euphonium ($6500) that I tried at a local store, but at least I can afford it, and for a 75-yr-old non-professional it's pretty darn good.

A fun horn to play

By

from Ohio

Comments about Cool Wind CEU-200 Series 4-Valve Plastic Euphonium:

I purchased this horn with an eye to parades and holiday performances. Horns used on parades seem to ding often, and I didn't want to subject my good horns to this treatment. Since it is a bright color (red), it seemed like a good possibility for Christmas concerts and Tuba Christmas events. I've had it for a couple weeks and am very satisfied with it. The valves work as well or better than my Yamaha 321 or my Bach. The tuning slides all function well. It is very lightweight, with everything well-braced. The included mouthpiece (a plastic Cool Wind 5g) is comfortable, and I prefer it to my Bach 6 1/2AL. The horn blows easily and does not feel stuffy. Although plastic, the sound blends in well with other horns in my section. This might also be a cost-effective first horn for a younger player, or someone who might have issues with the weight of a customary horn.

Took it to it's first gig. Sound was OK but had to fight intonation similar to a 1930's baritone. That being said, it sure is light and convenient.
