OVERVIEW

Vintage mouthpieces revisited.

Inspired by the most prized vintage mouthpieces of the 1920s, the Reserve harnesses modern technology, pioneered by D™Addario, to recreate the incomparable craftsmanship found in these legendary works of art. Milled, not molded, from hard rubber for a higher level of consistency, every Reserve mouthpiece is machined to the strictest tolerances. But the true beauty of Reserve lies beyond its polished angles, glorious curves and proprietary materials to something far more remarkable - its sound.

It is the first mouthpiece of its kind, in that it is precision-milled, a virtue of modern technology, and modeled after vintage designs, a blessing of time-hewn craftsmanship. The Reserve is the collaborative result of top players, craftsmen and engineers all putting their heads together to create a mouthpiece that will permit an artist to articulate his or her musical vision.

Comments about D'Addario Woodwinds Reserve Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I own 25 + mouthpieces and tried 30+++ different reed brands / styles with many ligatures. After months of combinations I came across this X5 with a Vandoren 56Rue 3.5 and a heavy cloth rubber ligature. The sound was clean, rich, resonant, pleasant across all octaves, responsive and allowed a light fluid touch on the keys. The ring was well balanced with a bit of color and if blew very freely with moderate resistance. Tone between octaves was pretty consistent with intonation within 2 %. Also played with 3 1/4 European cut Legeree and sounded great but without nuance of the 56. Also EX on A. Robert 1929 clarinet.

    Huge upgrade

Comments about D'Addario Woodwinds Reserve Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

This mouthpiece was a great upgrade from the standard mouthpiece that came with my clarinet (Yamaha 4C). You do have to use a stronger reed and you can't keep your reeds as long because stronger feeds are needed for this one.

    Reserve X5 Mouthpiece

Comments about D'Addario Woodwinds Reserve Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

Amazing. I twisted it hard into the tuning barrel on my clarinet (it is still too tight), realigned the reed, and instantly realized that my sound was different. Not a great improvement, but different. Articulation instantly improved. It is an "easy" (comfortable) mouthpiece. It became my go-to mouthpiece that quickly.

A Wonderful Recreation for the Modern Clarinetist

Comments about D'Addario Woodwinds Reserve Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

D'Addario's goal in this project was to recreate the vintage-style mouthpiece of old. They used many designs that were available, such as Henri and Charles Chedeville, and Frank Kaspar. I believe they have succeeded! I have played many mouthpieces in my short time playing, and truly believe the X0 is the absolute best mouthpiece I have ever played. Clarinetists young and old will be overwhelmed by its scale, articulation, flexibility, and stability in the core of the sound. The sound is easy to control, and will respond to your every demand.

    Reserve Mouthpiece

Comments about D'Addario Woodwinds Reserve Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I've been very pleased with the results my students are getting with this mouthpiece. We like the XO facing with a 3 1/2-4 Reserve Classic or Grand Concert reed. Student's ease of playing in all registers makes for a more fluent technique. They are NOT fighting the reed or mouthpiece as in the past with other name brands. Due to ease of response and full vibration of the reed it allows for a more relaxed embouchure so students aren't "fighting" the reed causing them to "bite" and stifle reed vibration. They are able to focus on technique and progressing incredibly fast into a more mature tone quality with full range of overtones. Simply a beautiful result.

    A better Chedeville

Comments about D'Addario Woodwinds Reserve Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

When we began this process, it was with the goal of improving on the old rubber of the 20's and 30's (Chedeville's and Kaspar's). It began with a copy of my Henri Chedeville with the idea to strengthen the weaknesses of the old handcrafted mpc. With an emphasis on sound and impeccable intonation as well as responsive articulation, I think we accomplished this with three different facings, depending upon your preference. Rico has allowed the artists to give the necessary feedback to make sure this was accomplished and even though there were times where the "numbers were right", the mpc didn't feel right or have the perfect result. With a continued pursuit of perfection, I think we have now come as close as you can get. I am a big fan of this mouthpiece and think you will be too!
