Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:
I've been playing bass and guitar for almost 50 years, but never owned a 12 string before. I decided rather than buying another 6 string why not something different? I wanted a semi-hollow, and looking at the other options the Danelectro looked like the best value for the money. The tag that comes with it says it has great build quality, made in Korea and set up in the USA. All true, the quality is very good. It's made from laminates, seems to have a solid block under the bridge, the rest is hollow. Still has the retro whitewall look of vintage Danelectro, although the side material is a hard plastic rather than vinyl of the vintage guitars. It was however perfectly set up out of the box. 10 minutes with a tuner and it was ready to play. The lipstick pickups are a great choice for a 12 string. They really give it a jangly tone and there is a significant difference in tone between the two. Having never owned one, I read a bit about 12 strings before I bought it, and found that many people tune down a whole step due to the extra pressure of 12 stings, and use a capo to play in E. I didn't do that, just tuned to standard E, and it seems to be fine. Maybe that's an advantage of a bolt on neck. All in all this a great value. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a 12 string at a bargain price.
