Comments about ESP LTD TL-12 Thinline 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Here's the deal - I'm on my THIRD TL-12 .... and the last one did not come from Musician's Friend,. but from ESP directly. Story as follows:
Purchased a TL-12 in natural from MF. All notes moving up the neck would get progressively sharp. And I mean SHARP. I could tune any string to pitch, and play the 12th fret octave, and the tuner would show nearly 1/4 step sharp. It was BAD.
I determined that the bridge was glued to the body in the wrong position. This sounds impossible, but the scale length is supposed to be 25", and the low E string (always the "longest" string on a compensated bridge) was SHORTER than 25" bridge-to-nut. It was as though the bridge was installed for 24-3/4" scale length. I informed ESP tech support, they suggested I return to MF.
I returned the first guitar, and got a replacement. SAME PROBLEM. I could SEE the bad bridge placement based on internet photos; comparing how it aligned with the sound hole. I immediately returned the guitar for a refund.
I had bought a case direct from ESP (no one else had them), so I called ESP to return the case. The next day, the Senior VP of ESP in California called me and CONFIRMED exactly what I said - these guitars were built incorrectly, and a good number of them had shipped to distributors. They said the problem was corrected, so I got a third guitar (in black this time) direct from them, and it is indeed PERFECT now.
So I'll review the GOOD one. This is a GREAT guitar. Incredibly comfortable to play and wear, sounds fantastic plugged in (more on that in a minute), and sustains for days, reminiscent of a Les Paul.
About the plugged-in sound: The guitar I have does not have the B-Band pickup/preamp - it has a Fishman and it's MUCH louder than the B-Band; the B-Band system has low output compared to other A/E guitars I own - NOT the case with the Fishman. Not in love with the tuner display, but it does work well.
If you buy one, make sure it's the corrected build, and with the Fishman!
