Vocal mic with exceptionally low handling noise for professional applications.

The HEIL PR 22 UT (Utility) is the award-winning dynamic PR 20 microphone. To help reduce the cost Heil pared down the packaging options. Specifications and performance characteristics remain at the high level that the PR 20 brings, wide frequency range, the ability to handle +140dB SPL and -35dB of rear rejection that makes the PR 20 and PR 22 UT the answer for a wide range of professional applications. No cutting corners on the microphone here-open a PR 22 UT and you are getting a PR 20.

The PR 22 UT has been designed for recording, live sound reinforcement. And commercial broadcast applications. This is a very rugged microphone, making it ideal for professional use where exceptionally low handling noise is needed.

The PR 22 UT achieves its exceptional performance by using a special magnet structure and a large aluminum 1-1/8" low-mass voice coil assembly. A very unique internal sorbothane suspension system has been designed to reduce undesirable handling noise. Special attention has been paid to the phasing plug assembly with equally placed ports that sense audio from behind the source entering them out of phase. This produces a very linear cardioid pattern and reduces the proximity effect while achieving the extreme articulation across its smooth 50Hz-18kHz frequency response.

This new Heil element is usable in extreme high sound pressure levels and is immune to overload conditions making it perfect for vocals. It produces a beautifully smooth audio response without the inconvenience of phantom or outside DC powering. This is one great live vocal microphone that has finally replaced the "ball mic" of the 1970s.

All Heil PR 22 UT microphones come in a leatherette carrying bag with mic clip, one stainless mesh grill, and an acoustical foam windscreen.

Bob Heil explains the difference:
Heil Sound's president and founder Bob Heil explains, "The PR 20 is shipped standard with an abundance of accessories which includes interchangeable gold, silver, and black screw-on grill screens, plus a plush padded carrying case. While many customers appreciate and use these items, there is a large group of musicians, sound companies and contractors who need a simple 'one-take' PR 20. By streamlining the packaging, we can dramatically lower the price without one single alteration to the microphone itself. Think of the PR 20 UT as a PR 20 without the 'bling'!"

Great vocal stage mic

Comments about Heil Sound PR 22 UT (Utility):

I am a singer/songwriter (guitar, keys, vocal) and have one of those "radio announcer voices." So many dynamic mics disappoint me in a live setting. Between the room noise (small clubs) and trying to cut through the mix, vocals end up sounding muddy. Sure, you can hear the vocal, follow the melody, but can you make out the lyrics? Think about that next time you listen to live music at a local club. Lots of bands playing clubs share that problem - vocals are loud enough but sound muddy. The best word to describe the PR 22 is "articulate." There is plenty of bottom end but the upper range (around 4 ~ 8hz?) has a sparkle that lets you hear each syllable come through. Play with eq a bit to avoid feedback and when you find the sweet spot you'll be rewarded with more vocal clarity you've though possible in a live setting. This is a choice mic of for live music and will provide more clarity than the industry standard stage mic (you know which one I'm referring to!) It works for most voices (not for thin/high or nasal vocalist.) As an extra bonus, the PR 22 is a great studio mic when you want to accentuate the "sizzle" of an instrument (snare, cymbals, etc.) If you sing in a band and wish for a bit more vocal clarity, try the Heil PR 22.
