Comments about J & D Hite Alto Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I ordered the Hite alto clarinet mouthpiece along with the Vandoren B44 and the Clark Fobes Nova so that I could trial them all. I had played a B45 on Bb clarinet for decades but in recent years came to love the Fobes 4L so I expected that the Fobes would be my favorite - but I ended up easily preferring the B44 to the other two mouthpieces. The Hite played well for a budget mouthpiece (just over half the price of the Vandoren) but clearly did not have the tone quality and focus of the Vandoren. All this being said I wouldn't give the B44 5 stars either (maybe 4) and would LOVE if Vandoren would put out a B50 for the alto. That's what I play on bass clarinet and it's a whole 'nother level above the B44/B45 in my opinion.

    A golden voice

Comments about J & D Hite Alto Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I just received this mouthpiece today on 16/10/2006. It's amazing how good it works. It is much better than my Selmer and my Graebner mouthpiece! A true clarinet golden voice( as they said by Hite) from low Eb to high Bb (three octaves and a half). Intonation, color sound and easier staccato than with the Graebner (for me!). Color sound much Bb clarinet like in the clarion register, a little bit not so Bass clarinet like in the low register than with the Graebner, bit still well centered and dark.

Comments about J & D Hite Alto Clarinet Mouthpiece:

This was a huge improvement than the mouthpiece that came with my Selmer Alto Clarinet. It is very comfortable to play on, and helps produce a very warm sound. I use these with Medium Java Alto Saxophone Reeds (JD Hite recommended) and they work great!
