OVERVIEW

A powerful wavetable synth for crafting complex, evolving sounds.

The modwave mkII is a powerhouse that combines digital wavetables with rich analog filters to give users creativity in their music production. It features incredibly deep wavetable oscillators, filters, flexible modulation, unmatched polyphony, comprehensive pattern sequencing and hands-on control to deliver a unique, powerful and easily customizable sound. The modwave mkII comes with hundreds of preset sounds organized by front-panel category buttons, all instantly customizable via the four Mod Knobs. The modwave mkII's distinctive wavetable timbres start with aggressive basses and leads, and lush ambient pads which will add a new dimension to your tracks. If you want to dig deeper, you can also load your own samples, import wavetables in standard formats and create your own wavetables by using the free WaveEdit software.

Perform and Program With Intuitive Controls

Featuring over 200 wavetables each containing up to 64 waveforms, users can access over 30 modifiers to change basic characteristics. The 13 morph types help process them in real time. You can create new hybrids from any two wavetables using the unique, realtime A/B Blend. You can expand your palette even more by importing new wavetables using the Editor/Librarian software. Layer wavetables with samples from the built-in, multi-gigabyte PCM library or import up to 4GB of your own samples using KORG’s Sample Builder software. Animate almost any parameter using the massively flexible modulation system, with four triggerable envelopes, five LFOs, dual mod processors and two key-track generators–plus multi-lane Motion Sequencing and Kaoss Physics.

Kaoss Physics

Kaoss Physics models a ball rolling on a tilting surface and bouncing off walls. Adjust characteristics like friction, speed and bump height/depth, which are modulatable in real time. Start the ball automatically or by flicking the X/Y pad, then directly control the ball by holding your finger on the pad. The ball's position produces eight modulation signals to control destinations like location, distance and angle. Walls can slow or accelerate the ball. Remove walls to wrap around edges. Kaoss Physics is an interactive controller amplifying gestures into complex results that is fun to explore.

Motion Sequencing 2.0

Motion Sequencing 2.0, evolved from Wave Sequencing 2.0, separates timing, pitch, shape and step values into looping lanes. Each time the sequence moves, lanes combine to create the output. A step value may match a different duration, pitch and shape each time. Modulate each lane's loop points for every note with velocity, LFOs, envelopes and more. Notes in a chord can play something different. Randomize lane step order and skip steps with 0–100% probability for organic, changing sounds responding to your control. Dual arpeggiators interact with Motion Sequences for more possibilities.

An Arsenal of Effects at Your Fingertips

The MS-20 Lowpass, Highpass filter and Polysix Lowpass are all upgraded with enhanced gain controls that make it easier for users to dial in the resonance timbre. You can shape and refine 2-pole and 4-pole Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass and Band Reject filters. The Multi Filter, which creates modulatable blends of multiple modes simultaneously. Each layer has three dedicated effects, plus a send to the Performance's master reverb, followed by a master parametric EQ. Along with standards such as compressors, EQs, choruses, flangers, phasers and stereo delays, you’ll find distinctive processors such as the Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator, Reverse Delay, Multiband Mod Delay and Overb (from the OASYS and Kronos). This synthesizer also has modeled effects including VOX guitar amps, VOX wah, multi-head tape echo and a collection of classic guitar pedals.

Advanced Connections and Included Software

The modwave includes a range of premium effects to polish and enhance your sounds, including modeled guitar amps and cabinets, analog-style delays, a multi-mode filter and KORG's Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator and Reverse Delay. Send effects to the reverb or use the three insert effects per layer. With the modwave's effects, you can go from initial idea to finished track without needing any additional processing. The modwave comes with a collection of software to help enhance your production, including Izotope's Ozone Elements for AI-powered mastering, Skoove for improving your keyboard playing skills and other software synths from KORG.
