High-resolution, biamped studio monitors with 3 input options.

The Mackie MR8 Reference Studio Monitor delivers truly professional audio quality and everything you need for critical monitoring”at a price that's unbelievably affordable. Wide, even dispersion means a broad sweet spot, minimizing funny dips or peaks in frequency response when you move off axis. MR8 monitors deliver superior bass extension”tight and free from distortion”so your lows pack just the right amount of punch. To ensure the best sound possible for your setup, Mackie MR Series monitors feature acoustic controls so you can tune them to fit your room. With their active biamplified architecture, wide dispersion, ultra-flat frequency response, and outstanding bass performance, you get superior imaging with impeccable clarity, for a truly inspirational, non-fatiguing monitoring experience.

Mackie MR Series monitors achieve their transparent sound quality thanks to these key design elements:

Mackie Minimum-Diffraction Molded Baffle:
When it comes to baffle design, shape matters; it plays a role in how sound waves travel. Mackie's baffle is precisely molded to minimize diffraction, so sound waves radiate smoothly, and are dispersed optimally. Mackie's precision waveguide is designed to ensure broad, even dispersion, and a smooth transition between highs and lows. The result is a crystal-clear image of your mix, with an ultra-wide, even sweet spot. Whether you're in mix position or not, on axis or off, you'll always hear an accurate representation of your mix.

Amplifier Design:
Amplifiers are the power behind a monitor's sound, but they can also color it. Unlike with passive monitors, Mackie's amplifiers are precisely matched to the monitor design. Featuring Mackie's proven Class A/B architecture, the MR Monitors' amplifiers are meticulously tuned to deliver ultraflat frequency response, so the sound remains neutral. To compensate for room characteristics, acoustic controls allow you to adjust High Frequency and Low Frequency settings (±2dB). Balanced inputs allow you to get the best signal possible, but the option of unbalanced inputs mean you can connect easily to any source. And MR Monitors deliver enough power to handle the toughest source material, at sound levels beyond sane people's requirements.

A speaker's cabinet is more than just an enclosure”it's another component that affects the overall quality and character of the sound. Mackie's cabinet features a rear port, carefully tuned to deliver superior bass performance with no audible vent noise. Because air passes through the precisely engineered curved port easily, there is no distortion, and no buildup of pressure within the cabinet that could affect driver movement. The rigidity of the cabinet's precision-braced MDF construction also prevents vibration, meaning your sound is always free from unwanted resonance.

Transducers are responsible for converting your electrical signal into sound. So consistent, unwavering performance is a must if you want sonic clarity. Mackie specifically creates ultralow distortion steel frame woofers and waveguide-loaded silk dome tweeters to work perfectly in concert with all the components in each MR monitor. You get a precisely tuned monitor that performs with impeccable consistency.

MR Series Monitors are ideal for a variety of applications. Use the MRs to empower your mixes in the studio, or to add pro sound to your multimedia, gaming or home theatre system. You can even use them for a great-sounding home DJ rig. The MR5 and MR8 Monitors share the same design, so they function great together, too, making them optimal for multiple monitor setups”just add a Big Knob”as well as surround systems. For any applications where high-quality sound and classic good looks are required, MR monitors are the perfect fit.

Mackie's Reputation Speaks for Itself
With every product Mackie releases into the wild”from monitors to loudspeakers to mixers”they up the ante on performance, reliability, and affordability. Mackie's innovation and commitment to great sound is why so many of their products are top sellers, and why Mackie's gear has legions of enthusiastic devotees.

The Truth!!!

Comments about Mackie MR8 Reference Monitor (2010):

I went to a friend studio with a band to do a track and saw a pair of KRK 8 and they sounded great in the studio and after we did a mix and were in my friend car on our way home the track sounded terrible!! A lot different from what we heard in the studio. After about 2 years I set up my own studio and a friend gave me a M-audio Studio Phile and it was the same thing as the KRK`S. Sounds good in the studio but when played in the car a total disgrace. I went online and tried to locate something that would give me the truth so when I play my tracks wherever it would sound just as in the studio. So after all my research I saw these babies and right away without hearing them I knew I found a winner I am out in Jamaica and everyone use Mackie whether live or in the studio and results are always good. I went out and grab these right away I remember picking them up after work one evening so it took me a while to get them home. So I went home and met my band members waiting for me to practice so we hooked them up and everyone was surprised when they heard them I recorded the session and went to listen it in the car and I didnt make a mistake. Everything that I heard in the studio was what I heard in the car it doesn't get better. If you are looking for monitors that gives you accuracy you found them, go grab these.

great, wish they had auto power on/off though

Comments about Mackie MR8 Reference Monitor (2010):

Bought a pair of these on the "buy one, get second half off" sale. Replaces a pair of KRK 6" powered monitors that were too small for my studio/music work space (needed more volume and low-end capability for a set of electronic drums). The Mackies are great -- plenty of power, nice, even, balanced sound, great looks, excellent value, etc. Would be PERFECT if they just had automatic power on/off (via audio signal detection) like the KRK's did. I really don't like having then constantly powered up when I am not using them (they consume 20 watts idle). As such, re-routing my power cabling to plug them into my main rack with the mixer, multi-track, etc. so I can power them up/down with everything else. Not a big deal. Overall -- great speakers and perfectly suits my needs.

Excellent with a few very minor quirks...

Comments about Mackie MR8 Reference Monitor (2010):

I am using these along with a set of KRK G2 Rockit 8s. The Mackie MR8s have a bump in the mids that I have to correct using the KRKs. However I like the bump because I have never pushed the KRKs to bring that much midrange out. So the Mackies actually compliment the KRKs and vice-versa. The Mackies give me a true representation of the bass, but the KRK?s allow me to mix in the lower registers a lot better. Because of the room I am recording in, I have the Mackies and the KRKs HF set to -2 db. The Mackies HF cut still give me a tad bit more on the high end than I want, but the final mix still sounds quite balanced. The MR8?s are not multivoltage which is a con for me cause I bounce between the US and the Middle East where the voltage is 240vac. The Mackies are strictly 60 Hz, but I have them on a step-down transformer and they appear to be fine. If this was a pure digital product and the 60 Hz was used to clock something I could understand Mackie?s design philosophy. Anyway, just one more piece of equipment to add to the setup. Setting the volume on the Mackies isn?t very precise. The trim knob is not step indented therefore it makes it kinda of difficult to balance them out. To balance them out I generated some white noise and tweaked the trim pots until the sound was in the middle. I don?t mix/listen very loud so the 10 o?clock position is loud enough.Overall the MR8s are very good monitors and are very revealing. I love both the KRKs and the Mackies, but I think I will always believe the KRKs in a critical listening situation. However, comparing them both to what was available on the market 10 years ago, they are more than comparable!! As with any monitors you will have to play many CDs thru them to figure them out and record/mix, record/mix, record/mix.

By far the best reference monitors!

Comments about Mackie MR8 Reference Monitor (2010):

These reference monitors will deliver you the best mixes ever in your home/small stuido. IF you have a good 1/3 octave EQ like the Alesis DEQ230D and your studio tuned and dampened correctly your mixes will sound like a million dollars! The monitors are extremely accurate and deliver whether the volume level is low or high. I do my mixes at a lower volume and these monitors really perform. I have recommended these monitors to all my recording engineer friends.

Total Ear and Eye Candy!

Comments about Mackie MR8 Reference Monitor (2010):

Went to my local music store to buy what I thought would be a pair of KRK Rokit 6's but saw these in the corner on sale for the same price as the KRK's I was gonna buy so I decided to have a listen. HOLY CRAP! these are super full, very powerful monitors. After listening to loads of others, 5", 6", etc. I could not imagine buying anything else. No other company in this price range will even show you the frequency response for their speakers and there is a good reason for it, it's not flat, not accurate, and won't give you satisfying results. People can tell when something was made on the cheap. Seriously, if you need a pair of monitors, don't just settle for a small, cheapie set, SIZE MATTERS! Get these baby's! You'll be thanking yourself forever!
