OVERVIEW

Plenty of power, exceptional tone, punch and sustain.

Sometimes innovation is in the details and this is certainly true with Martin’s re-imagined 2017 D-28. After nearly a century at the helm, and as the quintessential workhorse of music legends like Hank Williams, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and so many more, Martin's legendary D-28 has been lovingly and artfully enhanced.

“The post WWII D-28 had a slightly different look than its predecessor and became the centerpiece of the folk and folk rock movements at their pinnacle in the 1950s and 1960s." says Chris Martin, Chairman and CEO of Martin Guitar, "We have extracted the finest features from the D-28 of both my grandfather’s and my father’s respective eras.”

The 2017 D-28 blends the rich history of the guitar with Martin’s newest and most heralded innovations. The 184-year-old guitar maker has combined vintage appointments, including open gear tuners, an aged toner top, antique white accents, and a faux tortoise pickguard with a special neck profile to give D-28 enthusiasts a modern feel and comfortable playing experience. Martin has also added forward-shifted bracing to allow greater vibration of the top.

Comments about Martin 2017 D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I got last year's model and the guitar has amazing sound. It is exactly the guitar I wanted in feel, playability and sound. However, as I learned the hard way, Musician's Friend has a tendency to warehouse these guitars. If you purchase one you must be sure to hydrate the thing thoroughly. My soundboard cracked after only a few months and I kept a humidifier in it when I wasn't using it.

I have since learned of Musician's Friend's tendency to warehouse these guitars, which lends to them drying out. I have called Musician's Friend and without their extended warranty they will do nothing. This is forcing me to take my "new" guitar to a luthier for repair. This is quite disappointing.

First played one when I was a kid. Belonged to my uncle. Never forgot the sound. Always wished I could get one. Was always afraid to actually do it. Not disappointed. No regrets.

Comments about Martin 2017 D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

The D-28 (2017) has a very focused, balanced, clear & rich tone. It's pleasantly lightweight and resonate. Is very easy to play with it's 1.75 nut and modern low oval neck profile. Is a beautiful looking guitar.
Martin hit a home run with it's 2017 enhancements.

Comments about Martin 2017 D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

For the people who buy guitars all the time- this is a D28. Forward shifted bracing doesn't add any more bass in my opinion. It may be a bit more punchy, but that would be the only noticeable difference (from the previous D28). A great guitar, and probably, to most, easier on the eyes than the pre-2017, but it is still a D28. Don't expect a scalloped braced sound. Expect a D28.

I purchased this guitar because I couldn't fight my D18 with my vocals any longer. I kept the D18,, but the D28 is much easier for me to sing along with.

The neck took some getting used to. I wish they wouldn't have changed that, but all in all- this will be a great lifelong companion.

Comments about Martin 2017 D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Ive had mine for nearly 3 years. I was present the day it arrived in the shipping box. Straight out of the factory case it was in tune. Played great with no set up. Just wait a couple of years and be amazed at the increase in tone and warmth. It just gets better every time you play it. Mine is the 1935 sunburst.
