OVERVIEW

5/4 Piston!

Big luscious, open sound, free blowing and not lacking the ability to speak powerfully. With 5 valves the entire range of the instrument locks in very well and the heavier construction gives the player a great feel. This horn is ideal for solo work, quintet, brass bands, even large symphony orchestras because of its resonating abilities. You have to give this a try if you are in the market for a serious Eb tuba that can do it all.

Meinl Weston 2141L 5-valve Eb tuba

This is the 4th professional grade Eb tuba I've owned, and as an all-around horn, is probably the best of the lot. It offers a great response throughout a wide dynamic range, has excellent valve action, is built to exacting standards, and is quite comfortable to play. Intonation is perhaps not quite as good as a top-notch compensating instrument, but is well within acceptable tolerances when using alternate fingerings, especially in the low register. The adjustable thumb ring is a nice feature, particularly since the 5th valve is operated by the thumb on the right hand. Very satisfied with this tuba. Have received more favorable comments from fellow musicians than with any other horn I've played, both in orchestral and quintet settings.
