As a pro sax player of 40 years I recently got a great bari gig on tour. Since the old Zephyr low Bb horn couldn't cut it I had to invest in a modern low A horn. I've played most horns known to man and was ready to invest in the Yamaha, but a friend with Oleg experience sold me on the Maestro horn, and I can not imagine a better instrument. Purchased from WWBW, this is a great horn with astounding intonation, solid all the way up and down, great mechanics, huge and easily controlled sound.
The vintage matte gold finish is gorgeous. More importantly, the horn has outstanding intonation and ergonomics which makes it as easy to play as a tenor (except for the weight). It compares favorably to professional French and Japanese horns at twice the price. It came in a very sturdy flight case with wheels, which is rather bulky. But it fits perfectly in a Protec case that is lighter and more manageable, even though it has no wheels. After trying a variety of mouthpieces including Berg Larsen and Otto Link, I settled on the Rousseau jazz. I also found the Rico metalite to be excellent. Don't be fooled by the low prices: these are both excellent pieces.
