This marching snare is the best snare ever made. Perfect sound. It's just an all around good snare carbon ply. It's the way to go.
When I first got this drum, I was worried because I couldn't find any information or reviews on it. But I decided to take a shot at it. I hit a bullÆs-eye. This drum comes assembled with a Mylar head, and even comes with a high torque tuning key. The Mylar head lasted for about a month (what do you expect?) so i put on a used Kevlar head from my friend. It sounded great. The snare is very light, the finish will dazzle you, and if it becomes dirty, it is easily cleanable. The snares it comes with are great, and easily tunable. The feet it comes with save your snares life, way better than the Yamaha SFZ's "stub feet". The resonant head it comes with is fine, depending on your preferences. But my favorite part is the sound. I love it so much! That nice crack and you can hear the snares with even the tap of a finger! I've used this snare in Texas UIL solos, and the judge actually complimented the snares sound and beauty. This is definite buy!
I have had this drum for a few weeks now. I chose the 14x12 version. It comes pre assembled and tuned (not well) from pearl. The factory heads are bad so if you are going to order this drum I recommend a Remo Black Max, White Max, or Cybermax. I chose the Black Max. Also order a Remo Clear Snare side. When I opened the box and lifted the drum I was shocked at how light it was compared to the SFZ snares that my school uses. At first I thought that it was missing parts, but no it is just very light for a marching snare. It is easy to tune! I had never changed a head on a marching snare before, and it was quite simple. I thought it would be difficult because on message boards many people complained that it is nearly impossible to align the tension rods with the screws. All you need to do is hold the rod in place and screw it in a little bit so it holds. After that it's no different. The Pearl Mg tube carrier is light and comfortable! Looks-The carbon finish draws attention to the drum. People will look twice. A few days ago I saw a line with Carbonply snares, quints, and basses, and they look much nicer than some of the wraps and standard finishes. These drums will draw attention but not too much ... just the right amount. Sound-The snare has a much cleaner sound than an SFZ with the same head combination. The attack is sharp, loud, and bright. The Carbonply FFX is a very responsive drum, when tuned in very high tension the lightest finger tap can be heard. I put my ear close to the drum while I was tuning it, my hair brushed against it, and it made noise. However I do not like the "feet." The feet protect the bottom head and snares. They serve a good purpose, but are not my style. They have no affect on the performance of the drum, so it is just personal preference. They are removable and I removed them in a few minutes. There are 2 "feet" on the drum, and they are held on with 2 nuts each. They are bolted down and will not fall off like the little pegs on the SFZ. Over all this is the best sounding, lightest, coolest looking marching snare I have played or seen. I give it an 11 out of 10
