I had bought a Bari very cheaply off of eBay that had no case. After looking for one and the sticker shock of how much more Bari cases cost than Tenors and Altos, I found this jewel!! A very nice sturdy "hard" case for half and then some of many others. My bari is a 1973 model Bundy (Bb) (looks like a Buescher 400) in surprisingly very good condition and with this case, it will stay that way. Low A models fit as well and without the extra arm stretching weight of a normal wood shell case. If you are looking for a case for your Bb or A bari, this one is well worth the investment. An added bonus is the sweet smell almost like chocolate that the interior of the case has. The case has a nice zippered storage compartment on the outside for your mouthpieces, reeds, and other contraband items!!

Far better than a gig bag

Comments about Protec Contoured Baritone Saxophone PRO PAC Case:

I'm an "enthusiastic amateur" (code for "mediocre") saxophonist. My gorgeous bari, (a pro-line Keilwerth stencil sold by Selmer-Bundy as a student horn in the '60s!) came only with a gig bag when I bought it used. Dings were inevitable. At the urging of my tech (who I think grew guilty about all the money I was giving him for minor repairs) recommended this case.

It's roomy enough for a big-bell Bb bari like mine. I suspect it would fit most low-A baris as well. The hard-shell inserts underneath the nylon give it the ding protection that a gig bag doesn't offer - but it's still lighter and more mobile than a classic plywood coffin case. (Do I wish it had rollers wheels like some others? Maybe - but, honestly, with the shoulder strap, I'm good.)

A pleasant surprise: The included padded "sock" for the MPC / neck. (If it was mentioned in the product description, I missed it. Yes, some will whine that there's no interior sub-divided pocket for it. I think that's a benefit, not a bug - it leaves more room for big bell and low-A horns - and the padding on the sock is thick enough to allow you to tuck it in the bell and provide it with a little added protection as well.

Comments about Protec Contoured Baritone Saxophone PRO PAC Case:

The case is lighter than the original coffin case. The included padded pouch is perfect for the neck but too small for the other items such as a reed case, oil, etc. There is plenty of extra room, however, inside the case to store these items.

This is a great case especially if you are in need for something for an old horn. I had just overhauled a very old Wurlitzer baritone (true tone stencil I believe) and was nervous to get a case without a test fit. However the horn fits securely inside, the bell is a little big so the case just closes but it is cushioned so it's not a concern. It comes with a very nice neck pouch for the bell. Bottom line it's a great value and arrived quickly and well packed.

Comments about Protec Contoured Baritone Saxophone PRO PAC Case:

I have two bari saxes; a Cannonball BBSS and a vintage Buescher (low Bb). This case fits both saxes (not at the same time, of course). I bought the case for the Cannonball and it is doing a fine job of protecting and transporting the horn. The lovely plush blue lining is heavy duty, but is so soft that the case could easily become a place to take a nap if someone were small enough to fit inside. The case also includes a padded "mitten" that holds your neck and mouthpiece exceptionally well. The interior padding doesn't perfectly line up with the thumb hook, strap ring, etc. But it is soft enough that the protruding saxophone parts just push it back a bit. Nothing there to damage the horn. The outside of the case is made of a heavy nylon material that appears to be abrasion resistant enough for most reasonable musician activities. There is a decent external pocket that holds your most important bari sax accoutrements. All attachment points for the hand and shoulder straps are sewn in well. The zippers appear to be solid enough. They could be a little more sturdy, but for the price of this case, there is no problem with them (I will be treating mine with wax to prevent costly repair or replacement). If you are shopping for the elusive bari sax gig bag, try this one. As long as you don't throw your horn down any stairs or onto the underbelly of a 747, it should provide ample and convenient protection for your beloved baritone.

Comments about Protec Contoured Baritone Saxophone PRO PAC Case:

I have been using this case for over a year with my 1928 Buescher bari, and beyond some dust and a stain it is still like new. The case, I mean; the horn's been ugly. Anyone who has ever had a sax with split bell keys understands the headaches you can get trying to find an affordable case for one, but luckily I had no trouble at all with this. The horn does have a little room to move around, but the padding is more than thick enough to keep it safe anyway, and the wood shell is a tank. The neck/mouthpiece pouch that goes in the bell is very protective, and if you put the neck in tenon-first you can also slip a few reeds with it and they'll stay put. Seeing as how the case needs to accommodate Bb and A bells an accessory compartment isn't possible, but luckily there is plenty of open space around the bell to toss in a bubble-wrap or padded cloth bag instead. I also use the optional backpack straps with this, and although they could be more comfortable, they are very secure and it beats a shoulder strap. I could not be happier with this case.

Comments about Protec Contoured Baritone Saxophone PRO PAC Case:

I have been using this case for over a year now and am very pleased to how it is holding up. I play a Yamaha YBS-62 and it fits quite well, although there is still a little bit of wiggle room. Because of that I would not recommend it as an "airplane safe" case, but I do lug it around quite a lot, and it has not failed me yet. The small velcro strap that holds the two handles together barely works anymore, but this is a very minor problem. The new models of this case are "backpack-able" if one purchases the protec backpack strap. This feature has been very valuable, as it allows me (with some difficulty) to bike with my bari on my back.

Comments about Protec Contoured Baritone Saxophone PRO PAC Case:

I really love this case. I have a Yamaha YBS-52 and I carry it a lot to go perform, go to practice, and around campus. The horn is heavy enough, as well as the beast of a case it comes in. I bought the backpack straps that you can purchase with this case and it has made a world of difference. I now have two open hands and I don't have to worry about hitting people when I whip my case around because my arm got tired. It also is smaller so it isn't as bulky in the backseat. Others have talked about odd cushion placement, but I haven't really noticed a big issue yet. Seriously spend the money and get this case. You will not regret it.
