Good But Very Pricey

from Keller, Texas

I first tried Rico Reserve reeds as a result of a WWBW challenge. I have used Vandoren blue box reeds for years. I liked the Rico Reserve reeds very much. A few from every box were superior to the best one I could find in a box of blue Vandorens. Much to my surpirse, the last time I ordered the RIcos for soprano sax, when ythe box arrived, it was a physically larger box than before, but instead of 10 reeds inside, there were only 5. They effectively doubled the price of the reeds this way. $18 for 5 soprano sax reeds is too expensive. I will be swithcing back to Vandoren.

Bad Quality Control

from East Coast

These reeds would be great if the quality control was just a little better. I have opened boxes of these reeds to find chunks of the tips missing or the sides frayed. The alto, tenor, and bari reeds in this line do not have this problem. Also, after just a few usages, these reeds tend to become irreparably warped. I still gave them 3 stars, because the one or two reeds that are playable play with a lovely sound.

Two Thumbs Up for Rico Reserve Reeds

from Des Moines, IA

Site Member

Rico's Reserve line of reeds is a genuinely outstanding product, affording the player the tonal richness, response, and consistency that professional performance situations demand. The Reserve soprano is a refined reed, capable of tonal purity and core at the greatest dynamic extremes. Clarity of articulation is superb, with no low-register heaviness. Consistency within a box is very high, in the 80% or more range. I enthusiastically recommend these reeds to all of my students and colleagues!
