This is my sixth attempt at a bass clarinet mouthpiece and I wish it was my first because I would have stopped looking and saved a lot of money. I started with Yamaha 4c; then Vandoren B44 and B45; Clark Fobes Basso Nova; and Bundy 2 (not bad). Of the six, the Selmer C* is a snug fit for my Yamaha YCL-221ii, plays the easiest and has the best intonation. It has a 180 tip opening which is perfect for my entry level ability. I am playing with a 2.5 Legere synthetic reed (great) but will probably advance to a 2.75 or 3.0. Selmer is arguably the best clarinet manufacturer in the world so why wouldn't they make the best mouthpiece?
As a bass clarinet player, good mouthpieces are hard to come by. But the Selmer C* has a consistent good tone, and also for an affordable price. I would recommend this to any aspiring or professional mouthpiece for a good dark and rich tone.
