The quick response, balance and projection ordinarily found in a well-played vintage instrument is yours right out of the case with the EF340S-TT. A solid spruce 'Thermal Top' drives solid American mahogany back and sides on this traditional non-cutaway dreadnought. Faux tortoise shell binding and pickguard, open gear butterbean tuners and understated 'T' logo appropriately accentuate the vintage sound of this killer instrument. The vintage look, feel and sound of this hand crafted instrument must be experienced to be believed. Factor in the world-renowned Takamine ‘Palathetic’ pickup and the organic transparency of the low-profile, high-performance TLD-2 line driver preamp, and you have the absolute best of all acoustic guitar worlds.
TLD-2 Preamp
The Takamine line driver preamp (TLD-2) is a simple circuit designed to buffer the pickup and boost the current of the signal to eliminate any degradation with long cables. It is clean and quiet with a minimal amount of wiring and is discreetly mounted within the output jack assembly providing no outward sign of on-board electronics. The TLD-2 does have 3 simple tone shaping controls if you care to extract and tinker. But you are likely to find the preset TLD-2, combined with Takamine's renowned Palathetic pickup, as Takamine’s warmest and most natural acoustic – electric tone yet.
Palathetic Pickup
Using six individually shielded piezo-electric elements, one for each string, the Palathetic pickup is not a just a UST (under-saddle pickup). In fact, the Takamine design employs twelve times the element mass of the typical under-saddle pickup. The six elements penetrate the bridge plate, soundboard and bridge to make direct contact with the saddle creating a sonic linkage with the string. The pickup casing is mechanically attached to the guitar's top and bridge creating a sonic linkage with the soundboard. The result of this design is a signal that possesses the articulation of an isolated string signal and the rich harmonic content delivered by the resonating soundboard for a full, complete and accurate acoustic guitar tone at high sound pressure levels.
