L'cha Dodi is one of the favorite hymns of the Ashkenazic and Sephardic Friday evening service. Professor A.Z. Idelsohn, the noted twentieth century musicologist, estimated the number of melodies set to this liturgical text at more than 2000. An interesting custom of setting each stanza to a different melody can be found in cantorial manuals of the 18th century. This book contains 96 melodies, many with chords and arrangements.
