Big-bodied guitar with exotic Tasmanian tonewood and Taylor's high-quality ES2 electronics.
The limited edition 518e-FLTD's Grand Orchestra body produces a rich and powerful yet remarkably balanced sound. Together with this blackwood/spruce wood pairing, players can expect a potent midrange punch with top-end overtone sparkle ” somewhere between what you might find in a mahogany 518 and a rosewood 818. The non-cutaway design accentuates the GOs voluptuous curves, as do the ivoroid binding and shaded edgeburst body (with a matching edgeburst neck). Other aesthetic touches include an ivoroid rosette, ivoroid Century fretboard inlay, gloss-finish body and nickel tuners. Taylors Expression System 2 electronics bring the guitars big voice to any amplified setting. The guitar ships in a Taylor deluxe hardshell case.
Tasmanian blackwood is an acacia wood species thats a close cousin of Hawaiian koa. Though it might not match koas cachet in terms of exotic beauty, its tonal range is similar, and visually it often exhibits some of koas same character traits. Blackwood also is sourced from forests that are responsibly managed, making it a sustainable wood for guitar making. Blackwood takes koas basic tonal profile (a blend of mahoganys meaty midrange and maples brightness) and adds a splash of rosewoods overtone bloom.
The newest shape to join the Taylor family unleashes the boldest, richest voice available in a Taylor guitar. Just as the Grand Symphony yields a deeper, more powerful voice than the Grand Auditorium, the Grand Orchestra stands out as a more robust alternative to the Grand Symphony. The GO shape features a slightly bigger footprint and a deeper body, which helps produce a potent low-end response. Under the hood, a new bracing scheme optimizes the movement of the soundboard to produce louder, more complex tone with incredible sustain. What separates the Grand Orchestra from other big-bodied guitars is how balanced the tone is from top to bottom, especially given its brawny bass. And unlike other big-body guitars that require an aggressive attack to get the top moving, the GO is responsive to a light touch, rewarding players who have a dynamic playing style. If you crave a guitar sound thats brimming with power and rich detail, the Grand Orchestra wont disappoint. From big cowboy chords to lush fingerstyle arrangements, the Grand Orchestra might be the most expressive and versatile big guitar you ever play.
