Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

The trick is to find the right strength reed. The T55, for me, requires a softer reed. I normally play a 2-1/2 but I may take it down to a 2. Once you find the right reed you get a great sound with this mouthpiece. Also, I'm a blowhard. Can't apply my normal pressure with this one. I have to relax and focus my air and let the reed vibrate if that makes sense. I really like it.

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I was in the market for a brighter sounding mouthpiece, because my current setup wasn't projecting enough for the style of music I'm currently playing on tenor. I have a Vandoren Java mouthpiece for alto and I love it. This mouthpiece is no exception.

I got the T75 which is equivalent to a 7*. It's extremely loud and bright which is exactly what I needed to cut through the mix. I actually had to tone down the brightness a bit. I had a vintage Buffet ligature hanging around, so I put that on with a Vandoren V16 number 3 reed, and it sounds great.

This mouthpiece can get great subtones/voo voo sound when you play soft, and there's more then enough power and bite with a nice buzz when you play loud.

The mouthpiece played for me right out of the box. No complaints on this one. This is a great mouthpiece, and I highly recommend it.

Just got the JJ T45 and could not be happier. Bright, clear tone. Not tinny or thin. Excellent. A nice change of pace from from V5 T25 which I also absolutely love.

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

The Vandoren Jumbo Java T45 is a beast of a mouthpiece. It's louder and more powerful than all of the metal mouthpieces that I've tried, and playing this mouthpiece is just a joy to use. The timbre and colors of the mouthpiece come out easily and beautifully, and it's perfect for any jazz, rock, or funk music.

        Great piece for the money

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

Vandoren Jumbo Java mouthpieces are outstanding for rock gigs. Consistently free-blowing, they cut beautifully when competing with electric guitars and other amplified instruments. These mouthpieces are very comparable to more expensive metal ones, but much easier to control. I've mainly used Bergs and Otto Links for jazz, and wanted something with a little more bite. Vandoren does not disappoint. The mouthpiece's high baffle and compact chamber mean altissimo notes pop effortlessly and have a ferocious edge when pushed. Despite its bright sound, the Vandoren Jumbo Java can be toned down for jazz with a woodier reed and quality ligature. I picked up a Vandoren Optimum ligature which fits the Jumbo Java perfectly and provides an extremely resonant sound that is customizable via interchangeable metal plates. Overall, this mouthpiece is an excellent choice for professionals, advancing students, and anyone looking for a great rock/R&B/funk/fusion mouthpiece at a reasonable price.

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I bought this just to test it. I had read about a few reviews where people enjoyed playing on it. Boy did this mouthpiece surprise me. I used it on my mark VI and Yamaha Custom ZII and this mouthpiece does it all. It can play in the altissimo register in tune and with a large dynamic range across every register. I found that the sound of this mouthpiece can be changed to suit different needs. I bought the T75 and it seems to be very free blowing and definitely produces a good sound. I used the Vandoren M/O ligature (I think that is the name) and mostly JAVA reeds. I would recommend this to everyone. DEFINITELY worth the money, especially compared to many other MPC's.

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

With close to 40 years of playing behind me, I've been through at least 20 tenor mouthpieces. I've been playing Jumbo Javas on my tenors & alto since the mid 90s. I learned years ago that you can't always rely on benevolent sound people when it's time to solo, my projection HAS to come from me. It is still amazing to me that the Jumbo Java screams so well up top, yet still has a full lower range! I recently downsized 1 of my tenors to a T95, age DOES happen, & the new T95 STILL sounds great, gives me all I want, & has plenty of reserve! If only Vandoren would make Jumbo Javas for soprano & baritone saxes! Are you listening, Vandoren?!? PLEASE?

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I was having a bit of trouble hearing myself play at loud gigs, and needed to get some more overtones to make the horn sing. This did it wonderfully. I can control the sound to make it rock/blues or swing. The only con: it is so loud, I have to keep my JodyJazz HR* in the gig bag for small-room audiences. Vandoren's reputation for consistent quality control on mouthpieces is good, on par with JodyJazz; you're not rolling the dice in the quality game by trying one out. Bottom line: If you're looking for a piece with a bit more kick and a bit "brighter" (that is, more overtones) sound, this is certainly worth checking out. Who needs metal? I use it for blues and straight-ahead jazz.
