Working at a music store, I am always the first to try new mouthpieces when they come in. I have yet to find any mouthpiece, including all of the Vandoren mouthpieces, that matches the tone of this mouthpiece. It's dark. You can play soft. You can play loud without blasting. Your tone won't spread. You won't fall in and out of tune. It's an amazing mouthpiece. You really cannot beat the price. It's amazing.

This mouthpiece is very picky with reeds, but sounds great if you find a good one. It has a standard Vandoren price-point from WWBW, and it's OK for a mouthpiece. It has a lot of resistance for such a closed mouthpiece, but it has a very pretty tone. By buying this mouthpiece, you sacrifice flexibility and projection for tone.

Comments about Vandoren Series M13 Lyre Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I have purchased three of these and am extremely satisfied with the tone, response and intonation. Tried four of them the last time and thought all of them were great! There is some variation but each one produced a full, dark sound and had terrific high register response.

Outstanding.

Comments about Vandoren Series M13 Lyre Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

According to my way of playing and my likings, one of the best mouthpieces is the Vandoren M13 lyre. I am always trying new mouthpieces. I have yet to find any mouthpiece, including all of the Vandoren mouthpieces, that matches the tone of the M13 lyre. It's dark. You can play soft. You can play loud without blasting. Your tone won't spread. You won't fall in and out of tune. It's an outstanding mouthpiece. You really cannot beat the price. It's amazing.
About the reeds, I play with Vandoren 56 rue Lepic and Pilgerstorfer 3'5s.

Best regards,

Miguel Ángel.

Comments about Vandoren Series M13 Lyre Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I wanted to improve the sounds of my Bb YAMAHA YCL-255 clarinet even if I'm still practicing as beginner since I started the study in March '17
Having the possibility of returning the products after testing, I decided to purchase three M13 Lyre mouthpieces and hence I could choose, with the help of my professor, the one which better performs
Great deal !! I'll for sure continue purchasing from Woodwinds

Pros

  • Darker Tone Middle Tones

Cons

  • Much More Resistant

Best Uses

  • Chamber Music Not Good F
  • Not For A Soloist

Comments about Vandoren Series M13 Lyre Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

This is not as free blowing as the M13, but good for chamber music. If you are looking to wail as a soloist stick to the M13.

Huge improvement!

Comments about Vandoren Series M13 Lyre Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I have been playing the clarinet for 8 years and been playing with the original mouthpiece that came with my instrument. Once I switched it I could tell the difference from my lower and high octaves. The M13 Lyre is a deep and strong sound that any clarinet player should be looking for when deciding to buy a new one. This mouthpiece is amazing. It's a must buy! I would recommend trying it out before you buy one.

Comments about Vandoren Series M13 Lyre Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

The M13 Lyre mouthpiece is absolutely amazing! It produces a sound that is both dark and pure. The higher notes are easy to play. It takes a while if getting used to though, because it has a pretty nature to opening. But once you get used to it, it gives you the sound that makes you always want to play. Great mouthpiece! I would definitely recommend this to anyone!!

Terrific Mouthpiece

Comments about Vandoren Series M13 Lyre Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

This is one of my favorite mouthpieces. I decided to try it after reading such positive reviews, and I'm glad I did. I initially bought it as a back up to my very expensive, hand-made mouthpiece. And now I prefer this one! The tone is amazing and the response couldn't be better. I'll stick with this as my main mouthpiece from now on!

Comments about Vandoren Series M13 Lyre Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I bought this mouthpiece after my band teacher in 8th grade suggested it to me. He has his doctorate in clarinet performance. After trying it out at a local music store, I was sold. It works great with 3.5 or 4 size blue box Vandoren's. I broke my original one two years ago and had to use some stock mouthpiece one of my friends had for about a week, it was really terrible. If I ever break it again/loose it/have my horn stolen I'd buy another without a second thought. It's great for chamber work, solos in church, and wind ensemble settings. Unmic'd it doesn't have enough projection for Jazz, but that's what my Brilhart Ebolin 3* is for. That's a mouthpiece that can cut through the mix. I've tried the B45 and it just doesn't do it for me, it plays to muffled sounding for me.
