The Violence Fractured Bundle from Vir2 contains full versions of two virtual instrument libraries that capture the essence of two primary members of the string instrument family: solo violin and acoustic guitar. Violence and Fractured are both impeccably sampled collections containing a wide variety of both common and uncommon articulations; bows, picks, fingers, sticks and more are faithfully represented here, along with timbre adjustment knobs from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Violence
Violence is a multidimensional and innovative virtual instrument that harnesses extremely unusual textures, manglings, distortions, and perspectives on the solo violin.
Created for both musical use and sound design, Violence features an unprecedented deconstruction of a solo violin recorded from numerous angles: bowed, scraped, hit and plucked; played with mallets, chopsticks, guitar picks, and wet fingers. Then the sound design was re-pitched, layered, and post-processed through an array of unusual tools to produce sounds unlike any found in other virtual instruments. More than eighty unique patches were designed, each with a custom set of scripted knobs and controls all conveniently organized into four categories of sounds: Drum Kits, Melodic, Pads and Sound Effects, and Tempo-Synced.
The inspiration for Violence came from the influential American composer John Cage, whose extensive experiments with prepared piano yielded new timbres and effects. What Cage did on the piano, Violence brings to the violin: a new and unorthodox approach to a traditional instrument, yielding amazing and fresh new instruments, textures, and sound design elements. Violence combines physical alterations with digital manipulations for a sound that straddles acoustic and electronic realms.
Fractured
Fractured: Prepared Acoustic Guitar is an innovative new collection of instruments featuring creative and esoteric samples and manipulations of various acoustic guitars. Following the tradition begun by Violence, Vir2's virtual dismembering of a solo violin, Fractured features 2.3GB of compressed samples and more than one hundred new instruments with numerous variations and effects built into each. Each patch features the organic goodness of the acoustic guitar, but stretches its timbre in new directions to create previously unheard musical effects. Drum kits were made with mallets, fingernail scrapes, metal scrapes, cardboard scrapes and pouring rice over the guitar. Long evolving pads were built from acoustic guitar samples that blur the line between electronic and acoustic. Fractured also features playable and dynamic rhythmic loops and patterns, multitimbral arpeggiated creations, huge cinematic impacts, gritty electronic drums, gnarly and etherial melodic instruments, and more innovative sonic goodness.
Fractured features a variety of controls which are custom-designed for each of its 104 instruments. The instruments are subdivided into five major category folders:

- Compatible with both Macintosh and Windows platforms and includes the standalone Kontakt Player 4 application as well as AudioUnit, VST, and RTAS plug-ins. All of these versions ship in the same box.
- The Macintosh version requires an Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz or faster, 2GB of RAM, a DVD drive, and OS 10.5.x or higher. For optimum performance, Vir2 Instruments recommends a 2.0GHz processor or faster. The library requires 1GB of free hard drive space.
- The Windows version requires a processor speed of 1.4gHz or higher (Pentium or Athlon XP), 2GB of RAM, a DVD drive, and Windows XP SP2 (32-bit) or Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit). For optimum performance, Vir2 Instruments recommends a 2.0GHz processor or faster. The library requires 1GB of free hard drive space.
- Violence will run in standalone mode and is also compatible with every major sequencing package in the world, including but not limited to: Apple Logic and GarageBand, MOTU Digital Performer, Digidesign Pro Tools 7 & 8 (TDM, LE, and M-Powered), Steinberg Cubase and Nuendo, Ableton Live, and more.
